A few weeks ago, we went to Broder st for a surprise brunch for my partner. The staff was incredible. They were accommodating and constantly checked in on us. They also managed to get a table for our party of eight fairly quickly. The food was deliciouscompliments to the chefbut what really stood out was the amazing staff. I believe our waitress's name was Amanda, and two others frequently checked in on us as well.

For anyone looking for great food, excellent cocktails, and the best time in Hood River, I would recommend this place 10 out of 10 every time. They even provided small plates and a knife to cut and serve my partner's birthday cake. Thanks to the staff, her birthday celebration was truly memorable.

Had a wonderful breakfast here with my mom. We arrived soon after opening on a Sunday and there was a slight wait to stagger the opening rush. We were able to get some drinks while we waited, which was nice! The food was uncomplicated yet delicious. The portions were perfect - I got the two egg breakfast + potato pancake side and my mom got a frittata/scramble. Great & friendly service.

  • *****

Amazing food connected to a historic hotel. The servers were extremely friendly and helpful with suggestions. It was hard choosing what to eat because it all sounded delicious. The meatballs were so good, the burger with chevre and pickled onions was an excellent choice. The brussels and smashed potatoes are top notch sides as well.

  • *****

Interesting offerings including gravalx and smoked trout. Eggs were baked.

  • *****

Cute & cozy atmosphere, great service & delicious breakfast!
I really enjoyed the fritatta with smoked bacon & fig ricotta, loved the potato pancakes and their bread with honey butter was so tasty too. Everything was really fresh & delicious.
I'll definitely be back next time I'm in town.

  • *****

Lovely relaxed atmosphere and some things you wont get on the menu at other places . Norwegian fare. Yes they have gluten free toast available. Located in/next to Mt Hood Hotel. Hotel is very dog friendly

  • *****

Excellent food and service - breakfast was taking awhile to arrive and when we mentioned to the server that we needed to leave for the airport in 15min, food, to-go boxes and the check all arrived instantaneously. A++ for their consideration.

  • *****

Delicious blend of available sweet or savory dishes. Baked eggs are awesome

  • *****

The adult coffee drinks are amazing

  • *****

The local mushroom, caramelized onion, and mushroom gravy open faced breakfast sandwich. It was delicious! The mushrooms were legit and exceeded expectations.

Our table also ordered sides of crispy smashed potatoes and the Brussels sprouts. I highly recommend both.

One friend ordered the Swedish meatballs and another ordered the Swedish hash; both were impressed.

We all ordered Bloody Marys; two of us with Akvavit and one with vodka. I would also recommend trying this if youve never had it.

We had Brian and Quincy serving us. Shout out to them and their service.

  • *****

    Fantastic breakfast bord today!

  • *****

    Nordic fare is excellent.

  • *****

Our server was the most genuine person! Top notch service and delicious food!

  • *****

Great vibes and great service! Food is solid. Coffee was great. We particularly liked the salmon cakes!

Wasnt very busy but it was about a 45 minute wait for 2. Not a big deal, went to coffee shop down the street which was quite good.
After our long wait it did take us another almost hour waiting for food to come out.

Service: not all that friendly, perhaps understaffed but either way it seemed she was standing around a lot and just pretty flat. Maybe hungover.

Swedish Meatballs - came out room temperature, quite disappointing after almost 2 hours in at this point.

Swedish hash smoked trout - Looks pretty, tasted decent. Trout was done well enough but the dish overall is quite forgettable.

    Coffee - not bad

We use our belskiver / make crispy pancake balls often enough that we naturally went with dishes weve never had. In hindsight I wish we just tried theirs, along with the unniporro, as the hearty dishes really failed to deliver for us.

If you have time to burn and are interested in a dish; Id still give it a try. I think theres potential and obviously some people have had better luck based on the reviews.

Personally, I dont think we would return based on the wait and service; during a time that felt it should be pretty manageable. Even parking in town was a breeze when we were there, no looking whatsoever.

If you are looking for something unique and delicious, you need Broder st! We enjoyed the food. Great flavor, filling and satisfying. The lefse I grew up with is a little different than the kind they offer. It was nice to try a new version and I would definitely order it again. The cocktails are also well made and creative.

  • *****

Really good. Definitely one of the best places to eat in The Gorge.

  • *****

Best Swedish fare in the gorge!
    Love it

  • *****

Most of the food was great! The egg scramble dishes were dry and little on the bland side. All the other dishes were unique and very flavorful. Slightly on the smaller serving size.

  • *****

    Exquisite and tasty!

  • *****

    Excellent experience all around

  • *****

Fantastic!! The Trout chowder was one of my top 5 chowders ever! Will return to work my way through the rest of the menu! :D

  • *****

Best experience and Im new to this type of food

  • *****

Wonderful Swedish dishes. The meatballs in cream sauce were delightful. Servers were pleasant and attentive.

  • *****

Great lunch spot in Hood River

  • *****

Absolutely one of my favorites when visiting Hood River. Everything was delicious!

  • *****

Great experience, very impressive Lefse w/ smoked trout

  • *****

Had their pancake balls with lemon curd they were divine

We normally have an amazing time at this establishment. Our family loves the food and we typically really enjoy the staff but for some reason today our server was exceptionally short and impatient, seemingly only with our table. I understand that it is a difficult season for most but this behavior was only directed towards us as we witnessed jovial interactions with others. She was acting both as the hostess and a server. It was difficult to get her attention so after several tries my other half had to reach out to another server for our box and the final check. We are bummed out by the negative experience, I would have addressed this directly but my husband was ready to leave.

  • *****

An amazing Scandinavian Breakfast/Lunch with a creative and diverse menu and outstanding dishes that are delicious.

  • *****

Wonderful place. Great ambience. Delicious food.

  • *****

Great spot! I'm a huge fan of the PDX locations and go whenever I'm in town. What a treat to be able to grab breakfast at Broder while visiting Hood River

  • *****

Stayed in the same building hotel and enjoyed a brunch with my friends here. One of the best brunches on my pacific crest trail thru hike journey was here. A borscht soup with a sour cream and dark rye bread on a side. Meatballs were great too! Fresh flowers on tables is always a nice touch. Would visit this place again if Im in town. Thanks!

  • *****

We shared the danish pancakes and lost eggs. Loved having some spinach for breakfast in the lost eggs and the danishes were the ideal addition. It was a perfect combination, of a little something sweet and healthy too.

  • *****

Great spot in the ever charming Hood River Hotel. The salmon cakes were melt in your mouth good! Don't miss giving this place a try.

  • *****

Was recommended this place by a local. We walked in on a Saturday afternoon and waited about 35 mins for a table to be ready. We ordered the Stockholm hotdog and Swedish meatballs with added smashed potatoes. The food was exciting and everything was great (particularly the hotdog and potatoes). Service staff was friendly and attentive but they lost a star because we waited 35 mins to be served and had to ask where our food was. Overall, delicious food and nice ambiance. I'd visit again to try some of their other items.

  • *****

Delicious! Cant wait to go back! Such a cute place!

  • *****

Really good, new cuisine and deliciously prepared, good service

  • *****

Delicious Hash w Ham, best hash I've had - exquisite flavor and quality ingredients.

  • *****

I have family in Norway and this place offered some great Scandinavian styled dishes that reminded me of Norway. This was an unexpected treat for breakfast in Hood River and a super alternative to the traditional eggs and bacon style breakfast that is another favorite but much less of a novelty.

  • *****

A wonderfully tasty breakfast hash, eggs, and toast.

  • *****

Excellent Norwegian food in Hood River. Great breakfast and lunch menu nestled downtown. Had the Lefse with smoked trout and I was not disappointed. Everything was fresh and well prepared

  • *****

All food was delicious, smoked trout hash and trout crape, but the patio area was full of flies, and fruit flies. Maybe something can be done to keep them away from eating area.

  • *****

Both the Lindstrom burger and porridge were very tasty!

  • *****

Good food (seriously so good, high quality well prepared including attention to detail), vibe & service ruined my an overabundance of fruit flies. The food was so good but the servers seemed helpless to the reality that we spent our time waving away fruit flies even before our food came. Some blue light fly traps would've made a huge difference in our ability to enjoy an otherwise delicious meal in bothered.

  • *****

Very tasty breakfast - the photos don't do it justice. Cool space. Service was kind but a bit slow.

  • *****

Very good food. A lot of tastes that aren't part of the traditional American Breakfast.

The fritters and Danish Pancakes had a the perfect amount of sweetness, and the various meats are all very good as well. The lemon curd served with the Danish Pancakes was fantastic.
Food is well portioned and amazingly presented. Feels very homestyle

The main downside is that the dining area is fairly cramped even at a time where the restaurant was not packed.

  • *****

Came in just before 10am on a Sunday and had to wait about 20 minutes.

The Danish Mary is strong! One and youll feel good :)

Hash with the smoked trout is the way to go: the trout is excellent. The lefse breakfast is also good, the chvre is creamy and delightful.

  • *****

What a little gem! Very lovely atmosphere, incredibly friendly staff and absolutely delicious food. Came for breakfast and got Lost Eggs and the hash. Drip coffee was also good--they even warm the cream for you. Absolutely delightful

  • *****

Great food especially if you havent experienced Scandinavian prep and flavor combinations. The unnipurro was the highlight for me.

  • *****

Gave me great memories of having homemade lefse. Great selection or Nordic dishes.

  • *****

Always a wonderful experience and excellent food, this is one of my happy places in Hood River!

  • *****

Strangely small portions for the price. But a nice unique option for Hood River. The danish pancakes are awesome, kind of like hush puppies but better. When we had quests stay at the Hood River Hotel they loved having broder st as their breakfast spot right in the building especially for the wintery days

  • *****

The food was amazing. Definitely a place to check out. Especially if you want to try new things. The smoked trout. Absolutely amazing.

  • *****

Baked eggs and peas were a unique and yummy combination. Service was pretty good even though they were busy. Strong coffee !

  • *****

Love this place. Delicious espresso and Scandinavian foods. Only been for breakfast a few times but its quickly becoming a regular stop. The service is top notch and the food is just so good.

  • *****

Went looking for the best breakfast in town and found it. Everything was beautiful, great flavor, great portions. The wait staff was kind and helpful. Even the lattes were excellent

  • *****

Be sure to make a reservation before you go. If you do not have a reservation, you will have to wait, but there is a hotel lobby next to the hotel, so you will have no trouble waiting.
Some of the surrounding stores were open early in the morning. You can also take a walk to kill some time.
The service was very good, but it does take a little while for the food to come out. If you are unbearably hungry, you will agonize. You can fool yourself with a cup of coffee or something else.
My daughter and I ordered pancakes and a sort of galette and shared half.
The portions were just right and the salad was very tasty! I would love to know the recipe for that salad. The pancakes were round and lovely and tasted like nothing special I've ever had. The accompanying jam and pesto were also very good and went very well with the pancakes.
    The coffee is smooth.

  • *****

What a splendid surprise, a sumptuous Scandinavian selection! Absolutely adorable, delightful, and delicious. The atmosphere and decor is comfy, even comfier with an Akavit breakfast cocktail to warm the body and soul. The staff was fantastic, Amanda provided outstanding and inviting service. Not to be missed for anyone looking for a miraculous morning meal. Skl!

  • *****

We love this place for a Scandinavian breakfast. We come every year when we visit Hood River!

  • *****

    Beautiful Scandinavian style breakfast.

  • *****

Always love this place. Busy and they dont reservations so be prepared to come early, wait, or just lucky. You can leave your name, wander around town and come back to eat if youre got the time.

  • *****

Best meal we had in Hood River!

  • *****

Portions a bit small and uncomfortable chairs, but definitely delicious Service was top notch.

  • *****

Wonderful salmon sandwich. Interesting history and ambiance.

  • *****

The bord with unnipurro as a side and a vanilla cardamom latte was one of the best breakfast experiences Ive ever had

  • *****

Absolute must go in Hood River. Food is fantastic, service is friendly (if a bit spotty), and the surroundings are classic Oregon.

  • *****

Best breakfast I've had in a long time, everything was done perfectly. Even the butter was higher quality.

  • *****

Super yummy lamb burger and great service. You can sit outside on the sidewalk or inside.

  • *****

Great food! Best brunch in town.

  • *****

Delicious food and wonderful service. Dont let the Swedish scare you, all the food is just a creative take on things you have eaten before.

  • *****

Great food! Bedt brunch in town.

  • *****

It was a very nice place for breakfast

  • *****

    Fantastic

  • *****

Delicious food and wonderful service! We had an open-faced breakfast sandwich and a trout hash with orange juice and a cocktail. I didn't like my cocktail, but I can only assume that's because I don't like aperol so that was my mistake lol

  • *****

    Outstanding service and food!

  • *****

    Definitely authentic!
Loved the food, coffee was great too, it's VERY busy on weekends so keep that in mind. My server was awesome! I got the Swedish pancakes, and they are definitely a classic choice.

  • *****

Love the ambiance, nice helpful staff, great location in Hood River, unique and quality dishes and ingredients, nice side and food addition options

  • *****

Some of the best brunch I have had, went twice on a long weekend in hood river. Didnt have anything I didnt like but danish pancakes really tasted like Scandinavia. Highly recommend.

  • *****

Very good brunch spot! I got the Swedish hash w braised beef short ribs and ham and it was pretty good, but my husband got the lamb burger and it was phenomenal! We also ordered a side of the crispy smashed potatoes and they were the best part of the meal. The service was really good and the coffee was really nice (specifically the foam on my husbands cappuccino.)

  • *****

Great place for lunch, but they need a reservation system. It's frustrating to drive a long distance to a half-empty restaurant only to be told the wait is 45 minutes, and there was no option to make a reservation. (Website and phone recording said no reservations).

  • *****

Not much of a selection of food items and drinks a bit pricey.

  • *****

Amazing food, great service and always a long wait.

  • *****

Sat in the hotel lobby w/mimosas, decent chill spot

  • *****

I wasn't nearly into this place as I thought I would be. Pictures online make the portions look much bigger than they are. Food is ok, but for the price I'd go basically anywhere else before coming back here.

  • *****

Great place for meal. I highly recommend the smoked trout Swedish hash and Swedish pancakes. Our pancakes came way before the rest of the meal. (We asked for those to come after, since they are sweet).

  • *****

Great spot for some different, interesting and hearty meals. I would arrive early to make sure you dont have to wait too long. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Would definitely like to visit again!

  • *****

One of my favorite brunch places in hood river, food was phenomenal. Fresh & flavorful. Hit the cravings. Husband had the breakfast egg sandwich and I had Lefse (Norwegian potato crepes) + added the Lingonberry. So good.

  • *****

Very cute old building made into a nice brunch spot. Food was very rich but very tasty. Their breakfast cocktails are very well made.

  • *****

Absolutely, hands down my favorite spot. The Swedish pancakes with the lemon curd are a Fab and the salmon with the fried eggs were great. You won't be disappointed with their bloodymarys either!!!!

  • *****

We went on a Friday morning for brunch. It was not too busy and was able to get a table right away (for 6 people).

Food was excellent and service as too. Will come back next time we are in town.

  • *****

Fabulous quaint Nordic Cafe for breakfast or lunch. I recommend the Glavlax on Skagen Shrimp Salad. It comes on a thick slice of Seeded Rye from WHITE SALMON BAKING COMPANY which was a hearty treat with butter and lingonberry jam.

  • *****

The food is superb and the staff is even more wonderful! We recently hosted a large Nike event at the Hood River Hotel and Broder was kind enough to host us for lunch. Everything went smoothly and they handled it like true professionals. Everyone was very happy with their experience there :) The restaurant itself is adorable as well, a unique place to eat. Highly recommend.

  • *****

Great food, beautiful presentation, good coffee, a little spendy... But you get what you pay for.

  • *****

The place is beautiful. Portions are small. Service is slow. Meals are average.

  • *****

If you havent been you must and if you have been you know. This restaurant is connected to the Hood River Hotel. Its smaller than the other locations, be prepared to wait its a popular place.

  • *****

    Wonderful breakfast! Reasonably priced.

  • *****

    Food and staff are amazing

  • *****

Off the lobby of the historic Hood River Hotel, the service and quality are beyond reproach. The portions are ample, the cost reasonable.
Try the pickled herrings. I like neither on their own, but I'll include them in all future orders.

  • *****

I wish more places were like this. Great food that we can't get anywhere else, and super friendly staff.

  • *****

Great time for my girlfriend who has Norwegian roots!

  • *****

They had outside seating but with no distancing at all for the open table. Asked for take out instead but they did not do takeout either so we left without eating.
Came back after a bit later when not as crowded and tried their aebleskivers for dessert and they were delicious. Hopefully next time get to try more from their menu and the tables are setup with a little more distancing.
They were very gracious to give us the desert on the house too! Kudos for the great customer service.

  • *****

The food and drinks are incredible. They don't take reservations and the wait can be very long on weekends, so plan accordingly.

  • *****

Love the food and the chi latte! The staff here are always so friendly. If you are looking for a great place to have breakfast this is your place. You will not be disappointed.

  • *****

Last of the brothers for us to visit. On our have to do list when in Portland. It did not disappoint.

  • *****

    Outstanding service.
    Sexy wait staff.
    Ambience for days @
    Delicious food!

  • *****

Delicious food! Everything was fantastic. This was my first time eating Scandinavian food and I really enjoyed it. Our waitress Rachel was awesome and she constantly checked on us. Another plus is that the restaurant is dog friendly and they let us sit in the patio with our 2 pups.

  • *****

    The brunch was delicious!

  • *****

I had no idea oatmeal and a grapefruit could melt my mind but they did! What craft to be able to take something so simple and make it extraordinary! They were also very accommodating to vegan or plant based. They were able to substitute dairy free in anything which opened up a lot more options than it at first appeared. The alpine coffee was was incredibly good as well. Also the old hotel is a beautiful space.

  • *****

Great food with a Norway twist. Hard to find a great coffee place that compliments great food as well. If you're undecided on the numerous coffee spots please just give this a try. You will not be disappointed

  • *****

Not your usual breakfast choices. But of your willing to try something different, I would highly recommend this restaurant.

  • *****

We had burgers, which were good, and the Swedish meatballs. Both were very tasty.

  • *****

Very good Danish food, very busy.

  • *****

Everything that hit the table was well thought out and made. It's not often that I'm pleasantly surprised by how a breakfast menu reads, but I was here. Highly recommend to anyone passing through.

  • *****

The breakfast was not bad, maybe a little pricey for what you get. Though beware of the waiting time. For about 30 mins we waited for a table, and another 40 mins+ to get our food.

  • *****

Essential breakfast experience for visiting Nordic descendants

  • *****

What a wonderful find! We were in Hood River for two days and ate here both mornings. Our waitress was super sweet and remembered us from the day before. My husband ordered the Danish pancakes both days. These are heavenly and the lemon curd dipping sauce is a dream. I ordered the Uunipuuro both mornings and the Swedish meatballs. I adore the Uunipuuro and dream about it daily. The Swedish meatballs are delicious and the sauce is very rich. Everything is fresh and delicious and the service is wonderful!

  • *****

Staff are very friendly & its in a super cute hotel. The food portions seem small at first but are filling! Recommend the pancakes (picture attached). The drinks were pricey, but overall a cool joint.

  • *****

Amazing place, amazing food and great service! Super recommended :)

  • *****

Orsum Breakfast, fun friendly vibes. Will be back forsure

  • *****

Amazing food, fantastic service. Thanks for having us.

  • *****

Alot of very interesting items. Service was stellar. I'd say a must visit for a brunch option in town

  • *****

The ladies were amazing there! Top notch service!

  • *****

    Variety, quality and great service.
You want to try something new? This is the place. Great flavor combinations, come in with an open mind and knowing you will try new things and you will love it.
They do offer option for trading your toast to GF. The only reason they did not get 5 stars is because there is no subscription/ changes on their meals and I could not try any of the options that had Onion. Saying that there is other things, and the food is not only different, it is delicious. The coffee drinks are excellent. Price is on the higher range for sure, worth it for a special treat.

  • *****

Danish Pancakes had a hint of lemon that was a happy surprise. All parts of these meals were eggcelent, including the coffee and staff.

  • *****

High quality food Excellent location and atmosphere. Solid service in my experience.

  • *****

Great food, beautiful hotel, went 3 times in a week's vacation. Great people.

  • *****

    Unique drinks and breakfast choices

  • *****

A dive bar with a relaxed vibe and more pinball than you can shake a stick at. Ideal for a drop by and a drink.

  • *****

Some of the best brunch food we have ever had and our kids agreed. Dont be put off by the menu- we ordered about one of everything and it was all excellent. Pricey but worth it. Upon arrival the hostess estimated a 30 minute wait but it was over an hour before being seated. However it gave us time to do some shopping in downtown Hood River. We had to ask for our drinks a couple of times (excellent mimosas and hot chocolate) but they were so busy and otherwise friendly service so we didnt think a thing of it. We were just passing/traveling through but will be back!

  • *****

Bloody Mary! Aquavit dill is amazing. Great food as always. Busy for summer Monday brunch, but not too long wait. Neat spot at historic hood river hotel. Attentive & great service. Lamb burger!

  • *****

This is my absolute favorite place for breakfast in Hood River! If theres a wait, its so worth it. The danish pancakes are so delicious, but everything is so you cant go wrong! They also have super delicious lattes and the place has a cool vibe. Love the decor.

  • *****

Really tasty scandanavian food in downtown hood river. I don't think they're open late but there's comfy seating, outdoor seating, drinks, and helpful staff. Feels a bit like coffeehouse atmosphere. Food is a seamless blend of traditional scandanavian and posh healthy resturaunt. Not sure if there's kid friendly menu items. Its chair accessible. Servings look small but i always leave feeling stuffed.

  • *****

    Good. Enjoyed visiting there.

  • *****

    Excellent food!

  • *****

The hotdog was awesome, never had anything like it. The servers are very attentive. We'll be dining here again. PSA: They had a 50 minute wait this Saturday am, plan accordingly.

  • *****

An excellent breakfast experience! Be prepared to wait as this place gets busy. Staff was very attentive and kind. Quality of the breakfast was top notch. I had the open faced sandwich with mushroom, smoked salmon side, and a grapefruit juice. All worth getting and would go again.

  • *****

Weve visited this restaurant twice now hands down, this is my favorite place to eat out. The craftsmanship, the quality, the traditional respect, and atmosphere should all be award winning.

The first time, absolutely BLOWN AWAY by the traditional smrrebrd, Aqubeta cocktail, and breakfast bord. *The danish rye from White Salmon Bakery was a showstopper addition to these breakfasts*
The second time around, we went for the aebleskivers which were undoubtedly amazing - so light & fluffy - and lived up to the reputation from reviews. (The lingonberry jam & lemon curd pairing truly was the icing on the cake with these bad boys.)

Not sure this place will ever disappoint and I look forward to visiting again and again and AGAIN!

  • *****

    Simply divine.

Prompt service even when short staffed and super busy on a Friday morning. Seated on the patio after a 25 min wait during a very busy brunch hour.

I am not exaggerating when I say - I place a small bit of my dish in my mouth and teared up from how happy and delicious the bite was. I had the Lefse, side of smoked gravlax, and grapefruit juice. Thank you so much for the professional service, attention to detail, and absolutely the most wonderful brunch meal I have ever experienced.

  • *****

Great tasting food, interesting options. Little bit of a long wait

  • *****

Little bit of a wait this morning but the food was very good. We were able to have my pup on the patio.

  • *****

Hands down most unique and delicious brunch spot. We had the lefsa with smoked trout and danish donuts. Absolutely delicious!

  • *****

Casual Finnish spot in the Hood River Hotel. Everything we had was delish! Especially loved the Salmon Cakes. Service was excellent!

  • *****

    Good

  • *****

Food was great. Restaurant was cute. Loved the pancakes and the sauces. My husband liked his porridge and hash. Service was good and the food was up fairly fast.

  • *****

This place has amazing food & the service is outstanding. I absolutely love the Swedish Meatballs. Get it with the brioche bun and definitely add some of the jam and pickled onions to each bite! Sounds odd but you won't be sorry.

  • *****

    Delish!!

  • *****

    So yum! Zach was great

  • *****

Everything we had was delicious and the staff were super nice!

  • *****

Delicious brunch food. Lefse breakfast with lingonberry was tasty.

  • *****

We love Broder st - we visit every fall during our annual apple picking outing. While we have not been to Sweden it certainly feels/tastes very authentic and certainly European. We love everything from their traditional breakfast boards to hashes, and bleskivers - soo good!
They also have traditional hot cocktails (some with coffee) which are a fun way to enjoy brunch on a crisp morning!

  • *****

They were able to make many menu options dairy free. I couldnt have the Danish pancakes though. Options for vegans, vegetarians and gluten intolerant as well. Friendly yet very busy, a difficult combo that they pull off well. Adorable presentation

  • *****

Took a while to get seated, had to remind them. Food good.

  • *****

    Really good food!
Their lamb burger is reaaaally good, loved trying it instead of the usual beef.
    Amazing service, thank you

  • *****

Food was sooooo good. Adventures menu, great staff. Must try

  • *****

    (Translated by Google) Tastes good!!

    Schmeckt gut!!

  • *****

The service was great! The drinks were on point! And the food was amazing! Enjoy

  • *****

Good service and excellent food. Decent prices too.

  • *****

Borders here in hood river has always had excellent food! Hearty meals and drink and a cozy little place to eat and enjoy! The only reason I give it 4 / 5 is due to the service. It feels like you are being given the cold shoulder by a few of the waitresses. Like you are just a number and not a person. Love it all otherwise!

  • *****

Great food. Nice space. Friendly & efficient staff. Meatballs & crabcakes are the best. Enjoy.

  • *****

Always a great meal but this time, just superb!
My friend and I make a yearly trip to Kiyokawa Family Orchards, we always stop at Broder Ost for breakfast before gathering our apple/pear orders, Broder Ost always delivers!

This time we both had the breakfast sandwich, his the smoked ham and swiss, mine the mushroom. Our conversation during our meal was mostly a chorus of "mmm" and "yum!" maybe a few "this is so good" as well. We included a side of the crispy smashed potatoes and gravlax. I am pretty sure these were my first gravlax, the flavor was new and out of this world. Thin slices of joy tasting of dill and fresh but cured salmon, I almost cried with glee. The crispy smashed potatoes were also delightful just a little less emotional.
To top the meal off I tried the Swedish coffee, warning, this drink is not subtle in flavor or pour, a very rich drink. I admit I am a lightweight when it comes to morning beverages and this one had me sipping it the entire meal and then some.

This was a great place to go for brunch. The swedish breakfast board and the baked scramble were great.

  • *****

Enjoyed unique delicious cocktails while we waited for our brunch. Danish pancakes were sooooo good!!! Friendly staff. Great atmosphere.

Great food, coffee and overall experience! Highly recommended!!

We stopped in for dinner and again for breakfast. The burger was good and I really liked the pickled onions and beat. I appreciated they had gluten free toast for the burger, but the it seemed like the corners were dry and large... I didn't really eat much of the toast. The open faced breakfast sandwich was really good. The bread was really think and made it a satisfying meal. Breakfast the next day was good too. Porridge was pretty good, but again I really liked the baked eggs.
All the staff were friendly and helpful.

Fantastic food and coffee in a super cute space. We order the board every time, but have fun trying other dishes as well. The lost eggs was amazing this last time. The coffee is also so very enjoyable. This is one of my very favorites in Hood River.

Wonderful service and excellent breakfast. The Danish pancakes were amazing! Great place to have breakfast if you're in Hood River.

  • *****

We enjoyed sazeracs by the fireplace before the Hood River R/R holiday train ride.
The busy restaurant had a vibrancy that was pleasant to be around. The shared space with the adjacent hotel lobby is an inviting place.

  • *****

Our party of 5 enjoyed great service and great food here for brunch this morning.

  • *****

Everything was amazing from the food to the service. We had the seasonal fritters, chicken apple sausage, Danish pancakes, and Swedish meatballs. The chicken apple sausage is made in house and is hands down, the best chicken sausage I have ever had. Everyone was super friendly and it seems like everyone just helps everyone with tables so you feel very well taken care of. Would definitely come back.

  • *****

    Wonderful breakfast! Reasonably priced.

Super sweet staff and very good food. The hash and burger were amazing, and a great savory bloody Mary.

  • *****

Can't get enough of this place! Food is amazing and reasonably priced. The pickled herring that comes with the akvavit taster is the best I've had. I also love the smoked trout chowder and the Danish pancakes. You should just come with friends so you can try everything!

  • *****

Cute space in the Hood River Hotel featuring Scandinavian breakfast and lunch (both available during business hours) and creative cocktails and warm you up drinks. This creative menu will not leave you feeling heavy and tired. Fresh, clean Viking staples will keep you energized and satisfied. We created quite a feast by adding sides to already diverse choices. This is a must for us every visit to Hood River. Theres a covered patio area thats dog-friendly too. Also, the entire eclectic eatery is people friendly. Staff are delightful and, in our case, extremely patient as my companion is an indecisive orderer!

  • *****

The food and service was very good. I would love to come back.

Ten out of ten. Fiance loved her scramble and the Swedish breakfast bord was phenomenal! The egg was to DIE for. Staff was incredibly kind and food came out fast. Cannot wait to come back.

  • *****

Excellent place to eat breakfast. Stopped here to celebrate my friends Birthday and visit the spring flowers nearby at Dalles Ranch. Get here early and avoid the wait. Loved the Unnipurro (traditional Finnish style oven porridge), Danish pancakes, Dark Hot Chocolate and Chai Tea Latte. You wont be disappointed at Broder st.

  • *****

Cute restaurant, very tasty and friendly waitstaff! I also appreciated that theres a diaper changing station in the ladys room. The only downside is that it took a while for the food to come out.

  • *****

Best Breakfast (served all day...well 'till 3pm) in Oregon yet, Danish pancakes were great, lots of sugar though. Baked egg scramble was amazing as well. The porridge was great too, like a polenta cake but with oats and Barley, very good. Thanks Broder

I frequent here and it's always top notch service and delicious food, can't go wrong with the smoked trout lefse/ salmon cakes!

  • *****

Food was fabulous. Customer service was spot on. Atmospere was lovely. Coffee was also great. We will be back!

Perfectly sized portions of really fresh food. Including a little side of pickled vegetables with each dish is a nice touch. The tables of two families next to us were trying to cause a scene and were baselessly complaining a lot, but the staff handled them extremely well and with more patience than I would've given them.

  • *****

Good food. Highly recommend the danish pancakes, and all my friends dishes looked great too.

Delicious and beautiful. Loved the Swedish Breakfast Bord and the seasonal fritters (apple, when we visited in March).

I had the short rib and ham hash and it was fabulous! The walnut toast was simply delicious as well. I had a Swedish coffee with warmed cream and extra cardamom added...yummy. the waitress was very helpful and attentive and I will surely be back!

Stopped by for Sunday Brunch. Food was phenomenal. Will absolutely be coming back next time I'm in the area. I had the Danish Pancakes and my husband had the Hash.

There was a wait for Sunday Brunch. We were able to walk around town though, and widdle away the time.

Only con was paying $4 for a glass of orange juice. That felt pretty ridiculous, especially as it wasn't even fresh squeezed or anything.

  • *****

I had the Swedish Hash, and it was ridiculously good. Also its rare to find a place with drip decaf, which I was stoked on. Thanks!

  • *****

I know you can't pronounce the names of the dishes and you're worried Scandinavian means everything will contain fish, however, you couldn't be more wrong (also, get the fish because it's delicious). I live a hundred miles from this place and I've literally gotten up on a Saturday and just drove out to Hood River to sit here and drink espresso and eat everything on the menu. Do it. Go now... Why are you still here? Go eat all the aebleskiver!!!!

From start to finish the experience was FIRST CLASS. I felt like a dignitary in Europe. The service was brilliant, the food, was exceptional, the timing and presentation was ON POINT! I had the fritter breakfast which seemed like a cornucopia of food that just kept going. We shared the pancakes and the crunchy potato cakes. The pancakes were like little fluffy donut holes...soooo good. The crunchy pancakes were accompanied with condiments that were Devine. This place should have had a line wrapping around the block! Absolutely one of the best dining experiences in Hood River.

If you find this review helpful, please give it a thumbs up!

Great Scandinavian breakfast. We always stop here on our way though Hood River. Fresh and healthy yet still nice and and savory.

Great food with not too large of portions. Both the salmon fish cakes and the egg salad sandwich were excellent. I also had the Alpine coffee (walnut liquer, Advocaat, coffee) which was good, but has a unique taste that some may not enjoy.

    Best brunch evaaaa.

I had swedish hash with veggies and we shared danish pancakes. Every bite delicious. I'm talking so good. My sister had the breakfast charcuterie board thing which... Beautiful. The presentation is soo good. Our server was adorable and friendly and on it! So glad we came here and highly recommend

  • *****

Great breakfast. Also great bloody Mary with a pickled beet! That was a first. Will stop again!

Super eclectic amazing spot on the Hood River main strip. Viking menu with American stuff too. Espresso really good. Much better than I expected considering the place markets itself as a resto and not a coffee shop. Came for the food today. Loved the coffee and the vibe. A regular spot for me.

I would give six stars if I could. I came with a party of five people and we each got something different and everyone was totally impressed. Highly highly recommend!

Whether you're visiting town or a local, Broder is SO worth it! Unique and delicious menu and a cozy spot.

  • *****

The food is ALWAYS delicious. Our waiter was very friendly, efficient and welcoming. I really appreciated the warm hospitality as our first visit earlier this year, was awkward and very UNWELCOMING. As life long locals it was very sad to feel so out of place and have our waitress act very uncomfortable waiting on us. We are respectful paying patrons and we expect to be treated like everyone else. After 16 years in food service myself, I tip accordingly.

Excellent food. Everything we had was so good; and the menu is a creative, Scandinavian inspired mix

An unexpected good find. The milk for the coffee is steamed, so sitting outside with a cup of coffee means it stays hotter longer - a very nice touch. A different breakfast, salad on baked eggs, that works really well.

Always a pleasure, the food is great, like what you expect from a breakfast place but taken up a few notches. Our waitress was excellent, fast, detail oriented and friendly without any sense of obligation. Seriously, stop by for a really great dining experience.

I came here Monday morning at 9am and only waited 15 minutes to be seated. I had the breakfast toast with mushrooms and topped with eggs. This was absolutely delicious. They're very generous with the mushrooms! In a stroke of genius I asked for an order of Danish pancakes to go. I had that as a snack during my hike! Also delicious, but probably best enjoyed when straight out if the oven. Service was very friendly.

Update: I came here the next day and tried the seasonal fritters because everyone kept raving about them. And wow, they didn't disappoint! If you're going to get something, get that! It's the perfect combination of sweet and savory, which I love! I arrived at 10:30 and was immediately seated. Staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. Definitely recommend stopping here if you're in town!

What an adorable restaurant and hotel lobby attached. It truly felt like what a cafe is supposed to feel like. I started with the Holland Fog drink which was so light and creamy with the delicious hint of Earl Grey tea.

I try to take pictures of my meal when I plan to make a review - but I was so excited when my Swedish meatballs arrived that I dove right in. They were DELICIOUS. I tried the meatballs by themselves first and they were tender and juicy. The lingonberry sauce enhanced the flavor of everything which is the way it should be. And then I tried it all with the cream sauce and I died. You know the movie Ratatouille, where Remy eats a strawberry and some cheese together and loves how they compliment each other? Yeah, it was like that. I'll be back - thanks for a great lunch!

  • *****

Loved the trout hash, wish it were a little bigger!

    Amazing breakfast!

  • *****

The food was amazing, the plates were small and it's no complaint! What we had was so filling! The coffee came with steamed milk, and we were (randomly) super pumped about it

Perhaps this was due to short staffing, which is totally understandable, but there was definitely a wait time on receiving things: a table, extra things for our food. Just a heads up! And we were there after the lunch rush

  • *****

Fun Nordic style menu, cream was heated for coffee. Tasty food.

    Unique flavor layering/profiling.

Brunch on a Sunday 11am - peak time! Highly recommend and worth the 45 min wait! Though if youre not a fan of waiting get there early!

They have plenty of indoor seating and a small outdoor patio dining space. My group opted to dine outside cuz thats what we were comfortable with right now during COVID. The staff all wore masks the entire time - felt safe!

Brunch and lunch are served at the same time on the weekend so whatever floats your boat! The danish pancakes are a must!! The staff knew it was 2 of our birthdays and surprised us with bday candles!

  • *****

Stopped for breakfast with our infant after the farmers market - indoor and outdoor dining was open. The brunch options are excellent - recommend the house smoked trout. Top of my list for breakfast!

  • *****

Creative, modern, fresh and delicious take on Swedish food. Ive visited multiple times since 2019 without disappointment. Bonus points to its space in the historic Hood River Hotel.

  • *****

Came here for breakfast on Monday 8/9. All I can say is WOW! Definitely check this place out. It's located right in downtown Hood River. The menu was an amazing and unique assortment of Scandinavian dishes that I haven't seen offered before at other European restaurants. It was really hard to pick what to eat and we'll definitely be back so we can try other things on the menu.

I ordered the fritters, which change seasonally. This time the seasonal flavor was huckleberry which if you've lived in the Pacific northwest for at least one summer you know how special and delicious they are! It came with two baked eggs, three fritters with ricotta and maple syrup, and a chicken sausage patty - I also ordered an extra side of toast. Everything was cooked perfectly! The sausage patty was not what I expected but was so much better! It reminded me of the texture of a crab cake and was served with grain mustard.

My husband got the open faced breakfast sandwich and opted for the mushroom option. I definitely had food envy and wow - they did not skimp on the mushrooms at all! We both ordered an Americano which was brought out with an adorable little coffee spoons and a sugar cube. If you request cream to come on the side it arrives steamed in a little carafe - what an unexpected touch!

We will definitely be back and bring friends and family who visit. My mom grew up in Sweden so I can't wait to share this find with her.

Absolutely delicious! The mushroom breakfast sandwich was super good, the mushrooms were fresh and had great flavor and the egg was perfect. The potato crepes were also delicious. The service was amazing. Our server, Erin, was great. Super happy and exited and genuinely happy to help.

Excellent food and great staff. So glad we stopped in!

  • *****

I love the coffee and breakfast here, it has a lovely atmosphere and a unique menu

  • *****

So good! I really loved the mushroom breakfast sandwich. The wild mushrooms had great flavor, the eggs were perfectly cooked with jammy yolks, and hearty toast. I will definitely order this again.

He loved his baked eggs and Seasonal Fritters. I believe the fritters were full of blueberry compote this day... and delicious.

Our friend loved the Danish pancakes, which reminded her of Italian doughnuts. Both dipping sauces paired perfectly. She enjoyed the porridge, but it wasn't her favorite. She found the texture interesting because it was thicker than expected, almost like a bread pudding.

  • *****

Unique breakfast choices that are DELICIOUS. A must stop in Hood River.

Erin helped us with great dishes. She was very friendly and patient while we were trying to decide. We tried the danish pancakes, hash with brisket, seasonal fritters, and swedish meatballs with a side of smashed potatoes. They were excellent choices. Coffee was great too.

    Great presentation and coffee

  • *****

It was such delicious food and great ambience! Really great coffee as well. Only reason why I can't give 5 stars is because it took 45 minutes to get seated and another 45 to actually receive our food. I think the staff was a little overwhelmed (but they were still friendly) because they weren't able to check in on us or give an update. I'd still go back though because it was just that tasty.

  • *****

Very good food and service. We had the pancakes that were delicious! Everything was hot and excellent.

Perfect spot for breakfast. Great location, great service, great food. Watched several people walk away because of a 30 minute wait. It's worth the wait.

  • *****

We were staying at the Hood River Hotel and decided to eat here based on convenience and curiosity about the Nordic menu. What a gem! I started with a cardamom cream latte and ordered the fruit fritters for my meal. The presentation alone had me, but this dish had all the delicious elements that make a perfect breakfast! The baked eggs were perfectly prepared, and the fritters were delicious with a hint of tartness. Im not a huge sausage fan, but the chicken sausage patty was fantastic! Even came with a bit of gravy and some pickled onion garnish. Would definitely eat here again if I come back through town!

  • *****

    Excellent breakfast stop!

Salmon cakes for lunch were such a yummy treat. And my husband's side of the crispy smashed potatoes were perfect. Lovely vibe and service.

Favorite place in hood river to visit before wineries

  • *****

This is one restaurant that is tucked away in Hood River but is a must try if you are in the area. They offer a lot of choices in the traditional Scandinavian breakfast department. We had the Swedish Breakfast Bord and Danish Pancakes. It came with Danish rye bread and rye crisp which were exactly as I remember from my time in Sweden. The breakfast board can be heavy for one person but it had a very good mix of everything Swedish. I would prefer that the soft boiled egg does not come pre-cut and that it would a bit more runny. The Danish Pancakes were so soft, they melted in the mouth. It was paired nicely with the lingonberry jam and lemon curd.

I've a feeling we didn't do justice at this place by only going once. It needs to be visited multiple times to enjoy the other items on their menu.

  • *****

I loved the swedish meatballs and sauce. The smashed potatoes were out of this world. Excellent warm cocktails with Scandinavian spirits. If the smoked trout chowder is the SOD, do not pass it up, especially as a $2 entree side!

  • *****

This is a reply to the 1-star reviews left by: Holly Susuki, Chris Royales, Haley Lough, and meranda graham (who clearly decided they would gang up on a small business as a group). This took place on Monday, Memorial Day 2021 and when I went to write my 5-star review I was appalled to see these 4 reviews in a row.

I was present for the entire interaction from beginning to end as a diner right by the front door, where there are seats next to the hostess stand. The hostess was not rude and politely asked if some of the group could wait outside since there's no real lobby or waiting area so a group of 8 is a lot with the way the restaurant is set up (music, lots of chatter from diners, people coming in and outside). If you're checking to see if you can get a table, there's no need for 8 people to crowd in right away, COVID or not. Again, simply being asked is not rude, her tone wasn't off and no one was shoo'ed away. The hostess did seem kinda stressed which made sense since the restaurant was obviously filled up and busy on a holiday weekend.

I overheard the hostess explaining that they were waiting for a party of the same size to finish dining and it probably be around 30-40 minutes. She mentioned this party of 8 request to all of the staff and kept checking to see if she would be able to turn the table over at any time. She went out to the sidewalk to inform on the party that they were #1 on the list and they were doing what they could to get their table in order. I observed her running around nonstop, attending to the nonstop line of people at the door, refilling coffee and water, doing dishes, bringing food out, etc. Everyone was doing their best...the place was SLAMMED

I was just paying my bill (about 40 minutes later) and she attempted to call them to let them know their table was ready. No answer 2x so she went out to the sidewalk to she if they were still waiting. I watched as she crossed the street to the pizza place where they had all left to go eat and she was clearly frustrated, which I get.

Some things to keep in mind to this group of 8, their friends, and others coming to visit small towns like Hood River:

The Hood River/Gorge area is facing a HUGE employment shortage and I know Broder and their neighbors on Oak St. are understaffed and overworked. The aftereffect of COVID has drained restaurants and retail shops in this town and it's not even full-blown summer yet. Many tourists don't realize this. Memorial Day in downtown HR is absolutely nuts (another thing tourists don't realize) and if you are visiting with HIGH expectations about getting sat right away with a group of 8, then that's just ridiculous and then childish to complain about it on Google.

It's also totally rude to not let the restaurant know that you've moved on to another place, especially after the hostess checked in with your group (she totally didn't have to). No hard feelings, just let the restaurant know. The hostess said she would call you when your table was ready, which she did.

Of course you were able to get food right away at Andrew's Pizza...it's a grab and go place, totally different from Broder's made-to-order/dine-in experience.

I had a great morning dining at Broder, and yes, I had to wait about 40 minutes but it was worth it. I loved my beautiful espresso and generous mimosa, as did my partner. We split the Danish pancakes and shared one of the egg scrambles. I was so appreciative of everyone working on a hot, busy, holiday in Hood River and I genuinely mean that. It's not easy to have to wear a mask for 8+ hours and deal with entitlement in the form of tourists who don't understand that COVID is still a thing and restaurants are still set-up for smaller parties and spaced out tables. I wanted to defend the staff at Broder Ost because they were so wonderful to the 2 of us. I've worked in restaurants, retail, hospitality, etc. in Hood River in the past...Broder Ost is where it's at. GET A LIFE to others who cut people down in the service industry during one of the roughest times to be working.

We were a party of four guys, friends of 40 years looking for an interesting and delicious place to have breakfast/lunch. Border Ost did not disappoint. :) Not only was every dish absolutely delicious but the some of flavors were things we had never tasted before. The service was friendly and the all over experience from everyone at the table was; That was the best (fill in the blank) Ive ever had! Their food deserves a standing ovation.

    HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

  • *****

We found this gem on Google while traveling through I-84 East. It was quality, unique and delicious food that you may not find anywhere else. They did a very good job keeping everyone safe and at a distance. It is worth the wait.

  • *****

From start to finish the experience was FIRST CLASS. I felt like a dignitary in Europe. The service was brilliant, the food, was exceptional, the timing and presentation was ON POINT! I had the fritter breakfast which seemed like a cornucopia of food that just kept going. We shared the pancakes and the crunchy potato cakes. The pancakes were like little fluffy donut holes...soooo good. The crunchy pancakes were accompanied with condiments that were Devine. This place should have had a line wrapping around the block! Absolutely one of the best dining experiences in Hood River.

  • *****

    Breakfast was amazing!

If youre looking for deliciously authentic Scandinavian fare with thoughtful presentation, this is the place for you. I have tried most of the food and beverages on their menu and I always walk away smiling. If youre looking for something sweet opt for the aebelskiver, works great as a dessert dish as well. My personal favorite are the Swedish meatballs, savory and wonderfully creamy (order with a potato pancake and put the sauce on top) yum!

  • *****

Came here last year while on a road trip. Just found this place randomly on Google. Were craving it the entire year and obviously had to come back! Get their potatoes! Just ask for crispier parts. They are soooo good! The bigger parts sometimes taste a little raw to my taste. Those pancakes were amazing as well!

  • *****

Delicious, quick service and friendly staff!

  • *****

    Good food and great service

  • *****

Quick carry out with a great latte and a life-changingly-good breakfast sandwich. Sandwich may be a misnomer, as it was a serious, 2-egg, fork and knife experience. Wow!

  • *****

Great place for the city folks to get up early on a nice weekend morning and enjoy the drive up 84 to Hood River for breakfast!
Great food ,and a beautiful town!

  • *****

It's a chain, but really good. Nice take on breakfast.

  • *****

The food is delicious. The room is bright and comfortable. The staff are friendly and competent.

  • *****

We were all excited to eat here for different reasons. My husband, who's of Swedish ancestry, was hoping to get gravlax. He did, and was very happy. My kids wanted the meatballs: having been raised on the Ikea ones, they too we're after some nostalgic taste. These meatballs we're divine! They were juicy, bit crumbly, or rubbery. The sherry cream was an elevated and decadent sauce. Kids were happy! I just wanted something a little unusual. The salmon cakes with pickled veggies and homemade tartar sauce, we're just what I wanted.
Lastly, Id like to add that the service was good. Friendly and attentive, and very on point with the covid-19 protocols.

  • *****

I ate here with my fiance and mother on a road trip and was completely swept off my feet. Our host was SO friendly and obliging. My fiance was car sick and our host saved her day by giving her ginger ale at no cost, and the food was BEAUTIFUL and tasted even better. Everybody was more than satisfied by the time we left. If you're travelling through Hood River City its definitly worth stopping here!

  • *****

I could eat there three times a day... Sooooooooooo good!

  • *****

My brother in laws weddings ng reception was here. Food was great and the service was even better.

Best breakfast in Bend. No question

  • *****

The decor and overall vibe is a really fun mix of modern and vintage. The food and drinks are top notch. One of the best brunches I have ever had! We got a Swedish Breakfast and Fritter Breakfast and every single thing was delicious. The chicken sausage, smoked trout, and Danish rye were standouts. We had to wait just 15 minutes for a table and it was so worth it! Service was great too.

  • *****

These guys are so awesome! Me and my partner live in hood riv, and this is the only place we will choose to go out to eat.. we go here about once a week. The nicest staff and yummiest foods!!

One of my favorite breakfasts I have ever had. Just stopped on our way home to Utah from Seattle. I had the seasonal fritter meal and the apple fritters were phenomenal! I am marking this so the next time I am driving through I will stop. Also the quality of all the food is phenomenal. Would recommend to anyone!

  • *****

Very nice and attentive servers, good Swedish style food.

  • *****

Great vibe!! I love when cozy restaurants transport you to little European villages. The food delights as much as the presentation of it does. To top it off the servers are nice and they team so well.

  • *****

Broder Ost is located in the heart of Hood River. The food is fresh and amazing. The waitstaff are always friendly and topnotch.

Went looking for breakfast on my way out of Portland and I dont think I could have found a better one! LOVED the apple fritters.

Very good food in a cool space. The porridge was a surprising favorite.

  • *****

Interestingly decorated place with tasty food.

  • *****

    I really enjoyed this place.

It's a Scandinavian focused menu, I'm 70% Scandinavian, and the food is great. The espresso is especially good here. And you definitely need to get an order of the bleskivers, do not leave without trying the lemon curd and lingonberry jam with them.

I'll be back here next time I'm in town; every single next time.

  • *****

Absolutely a fantastic spot to stop in Hood River to grab a good cocktail or coffee and an amazing slice of Scandinavian deliciousness. This is the flagship restaurant of all three if I overheard correctly, and while not as cozy as the Portland one, the space is warmer than the garden home location. Definitely will return any time we're in Hood River.

  • *****

Our go-to breakfast restaraunt whenever we're in Hood River!

Enjoyed the breakfast food. Note: do not accept dogs inside unless service dogs. Do not have a sign on the door or a note on their website saying so

  • *****

Got the lamb burger with potato pancake, excellent food, excellent waitress. 10/10 would recommend.

Restrooms available in the hotel next door

  • *****

    Amazing food and great service!

  • *****

Phenomenal brunch spot! American cuisine really needs to learn how to balance heavy breakfast foods with pickles and fish, as they do excellently at Broder Ost. Don't forget to try the picked herring and an aquavit cocktail!

  • *****

The food is great and the staff is nice, but it can be a little hard to breathe but its a great place to eat.

Lovely atmosphere, good service and a fun (delicious) selection of food. Their coffee is also amazing and I love that they had oat milk! Highly recommend!

  • *****

Broder Øst is an absolute treat. The atmosphere was charming and modern. The staff jovial and well humored with an excellent knowledge of the food served. The food itself was divine... like nothing I've ever had before.

  • *****

Fresh ingredients and high quality preparation. Breakfast menu is well focused with a nice combo of both savory egg dishes and sweet options. Espresso was delicious, especially with the cozy interior. This may be the most delightful breakfast I've had in the northwest in the last 2 years.

  • *****

Food and service was excellent! This is a cozy place with vibrant yellows and hardwood floors. Long table for big family/groups and small tables for dates. I had the Uunipuuro and a mocha, perfect combo. Will definitely return... Thank you Jake!

  • *****

This Scandinavian restaurant is very unique. High quality food not only tastes good but also looks beautiful. We tried their Swedish breakfast and Swedish hash and they were really really good. This is a must try restaurant if you are in this area. You will love it.

  • *****

Sure is a great breakfast experience, very good choices on the menu, quality is great, clean environment, very casual setting. The only real drag at times can be the parking of a vehicle, no such thing as convenience there. But for those that find street parking in front or near-by, you are in business then. Definitely want to try it out if you have time, we try to hit it up every time we are in the area. They are very consistent with quality and quantity each time we visit the restaurant. Hope you can get the same treatment as we do, you should, if not, many apologies, but I don't think you will regret it.

  • *****

Had brunch here after renting an ebike for a couple hours. I ordered the breakfast sandwich which was very unique and tasted excellent. My girlfriend ordered the hash in a small skillet with pickled beets which she really liked. Felt like I was expanding my culinary pallete.

  • *****

Nice outdoor seating in downtown Hood River. Indoor seating as well, but definitely enjoy the sidewalk if the weather allows. Went with a friend and received excellent service, timely service, tasty water and a great meal. The smoked trout lefse was wonderful. Portions are medium. Definitely eating light, but it is definitely worth it for a good Swedish meal.

  • *****

This place has some very interesting, delicious, and beautiful plates! I ordered a baked egg scramble with salmon and veggies and it was amazing. Their cocktails are definitely out of the ordinary but very good. Our waiter was really nice and service was pretty quick for a Sunday morning at peak brunch time. Ambience was nice - great music and an upscale but homey feel.

  • *****

Broder is the most delectable and aesthetically pleasing brunch spot in Hood River, potentially in the Gorge, maybe even the entire world. As a local, I always bring visiting guests to this spot. On this particular occasion, our waiter, Jake, was witty and charming and satisfied all our needs. 5 stars. Do recommend.

  • *****

My favorite breakfast place I've ever been too. No lie. Staff was dynamite, food was gourmet, and it was reasonably priced. I got the lost eggs with some bacon. The bacon was sublime and the lost eggs were prepared and presented with thought and skill beyond any past experience with morning time culinary prowess. Espresso was top notch too. Just all around a heavenly morning. Goodness gracious. We may have been extra hungry from camping on Mt. Adams with minimal provisions but that is here nor there. Fuckin ay.

  • *****

Great service and fantastic food. The potato cakes with chevere and lingonberry jam was perfect. The accompanying salad was light and fresh , the eggs were cooked very nicely.

Quaint, quiet and great food. Must visit.

  • *****

This place is incredible! Everything was delicious and the service was fantastic. Being from Portland, I was worried about there being a long wait but we were seated right away. We ordered the lefse, lost eggs, fritters and porridge, each item was so good it would be hard to pick a favorite! We'll certainly be back for more tasty food next time we're in hood river!

  • *****

What a treat!!!! Had a great lunch with the family with great customer service! My tomato soup was very tasty and everything was presented so well!

  • *****

Amazing breakfast, especially enjoyed the hash skillet and smashed potatoes. We will definitely be back!

  • *****

Such a cool venue Fish cakes were out of this world, mouthwateringly, amazing! Danish Mary was the best bloody I've ever had. (Tried of so many!) Sweet Pickled onion, tomato and beet garnish! Yum!! Staff were so nice and attentive.

  • *****

We've been traveling throughout Oregon for the past week and I'm not a breakfast eater at all. But on our way back home to Canada we thought we'd get a quick bite in Hood River. I ordered the Danish pancakes and omg. Little puff balls from heaven! Everything we ordered was amazing. If I lived here I would eat here every day!

  • *****

Bruder st is the best Swedish restaurant I've ever been to. The service and the food were wonderful, and the wait times were good as well.

  • *****

We stopped in for breakfast and got a nice off-street outdoor table. The food and drink was spot on. Our server was exceptionally friendly and super helpful.

  • *****

Great find while in Hood River for our anniversary. Food was pretty much as authentic as I can tell, and delicious to boot.

  • *****

Just as good as all the Broders in Portland, but in Hood River. Excellent food. The cole slaw is some of the best I've ever had. The Swedish meatballs are quite good too. This is very high-quality food nested in a historic hotel.

  • *****

Beautiful place. Surprising to see so much charm and European flare in a small town by the river. The service was friendly if a bit slower. The food was pretty good. We ordered Swedish meatballs and soup of the day (smoked clam chowder).

  • *****

Awesome outpost of a Portland fave! Great location inside the old Hood River Hotel. The egg skillets are delish!

  • *****

Fun and funky decor with excellent food. We enjoyed the variety of cured/pickled fish options. Make sure to order a few side dishes to complement your main plate.

Anything with the lingonberry jam is a winner, and the crispy potatoes were divine. It's a good thing we weren't staying closer to the restaurant or our breakfast bill would have gone through the roof.

  • *****

Went here for a late lunch. Loved the beautiful space and friendly service. The food was pretty good. Loved the pickled vegetables like the beets, onions, and pickles. I had a sandwich with smoked salmon, and bay shrimp. Tried my daughter's fritters and they were ok. Next time would like to try the fritter with lemon curd. Last of all, this location was not to crowded.

  • *****

An absolute must eat spot when you are in Hood River. We got there around 8:30am and were seated immediately. The baked eggs and Danish pancakes are amazing

  • *****

A quaint, historic restaurant on the main drag of a stunning town. Has an elegant feel with casual atmosphere. Breakfast options were 5 star quality with 3 star prices. Perfect service.
Prepare to pay for street parking.

  • *****

Wonderfully fussed over food. And amazing coffee

  • *****

Been to the original Broder a few times. Was looking for a nice brunch for Father's day after our stay at Carson Hot Springs!
Was a nice surprise to see Broder Øst in downtown Hood River! Highly recommend!

The seating is limited, but the food is on point, and the cocktails are right up my alley! Like the Aquabeta with Krogstad Aquavit, beet juice, and ginger beer!

  • *****

We stopped for a cup of coffee and ended up having a light lunch. The food was outstanding. The coffee was great and the atmosphere was fun. They have a nice little side patio to sit and enjoy a tasty morning bite.

  • *****

You should never visit Hood River without visiting this restaurant. Exceptional in every respect!! Food, service and ambience beyond comparison

  • *****

One would be forgiven to be wary of a breakfast place that bills itself as an establishment serving Nordic style cuisine for breakfast and brunch in the Pacific Northwest. One would not entertain this apprehension in cities like Minneapolis and St. Paul where there is a very large Scandinavian population in that region.
So when I was invited for breakfast at Broder Ost I was somewhat skeptical.
But let's cut to the chase.
My baked eggs breakfast was excellent.
My dining companions were delighted with their choices and were the top about how good the bacon was.
The only item that, for me, fell a little short was the coffee. I am pretty selective about my cup of joe and I would have liked what I got served to have been a lot more robust.
    Great atmosphere.
Service was friendly and prompt. Enjoyed the small talk.

  • *****

Absolutely outstanding! Tried a bunch of things on the menu.... all good. But the shining star was the swedish meatballs, they were out of this world. Great service real long wait......

  • *****

Just as the other Broder restaurants did not disappoint, same with Broder st. Seriously amazing food and as always the Danish Mary was a fantastic drink addition to the meal. The interior of the restaurant was in the old historic hotel in downtown Hood River and had a great spot to sit while we waited for a table. It was also an amazing day in Hood River without much wind so we got to sit out on the patio without being accosted by too much wind which only made our brunch that much tastier!

  • *****

Came here especially to have brunch while visiting the Hood River town .Its a small warm place and we grabbed seats outside since it was a beautiful day. This was my first experience trying Scandinavian cuisine and I thoroughly loved it . Everything is simple yet very well prepared and flavorful. We ordered the Swedish pancakes , Lost eggs and Swedish meatballs. Their coffee was great which they very generously refill every time they see an empty cup . also tried the Aquabeta and the Baby-Spanska and they both turned out great . I would totally check out their Portland location based on my experience here.

  • *****

Delicious, fabulous flavors and portions. Pear fritters from hood river valley and cardamom coffee! I’ll have to come later in the day for the aquavit flight!

  • *****

Very delicious! I ate here a few days ago and it was so good! I had the four open face sandwiches and my friend had the meatballs. They were both amazing! The staff was super friendly, too. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for breakfast or lunch!!

  • *****

Everything good about Scandinavian cooking is featured in brunches at this Hood River bistro, including smoked fish and strong coffee! Not to mention Aquavit cocktails. Because they serve brunch until 3 PM, I haven't even yet deviated from that menu. Just one more reason to visit the Gorge and Mount Hood, beyond world-class water and mountain sports options. If only they were open evenings too!

  • *****

Border Ost is one of my favorite restaurants in Hood River. They have Norwegian cuisine (I believe) which is so unique and all of it is amazing! The outdoor seating is adorable as well as the indoor seating. It's in the Hood River Hotel which is so nice and has a vintage feel, too. The service is truly great and the food is served on the cutest platters. They have a huge selection of delicious cocktails for any time of the day - breakfast too!!! Would love to go here any time, whether it's a Wednesday lunch, a Sunday brunch, or a birthday dinner.

  • *****

We decided to take a trip to check out the cute town of Hood River that my coworkers keep telling me about. While out and about, and starving I may add, we came across this place.
Gorgeous day and took a seat at a table outside.
Not wanting to be too stuffed to do some heavy shopping, we decided to split the seasonal fritter plate from their signature menu.
It comes with a sausage link(mouth watering!), 2 baked eggs(think poached) that came in the cutest little skillet, and three seasonal fritters(we had pear). It came with a sides of mustard for the sausage that I wanted to buy a jar of, sour cream and syrup for the fritters. The sour cream almost tasted like a Greek yogurt.
We ordered a couple lattes and were so glad we split. It was very filling!
Perfect meal for a great day in Hood River!

  • *****

We were traveling thru and looking for a unique food experience. Being of Scandinavian heritage, a Swedish cafe sounded like it would fit the bill. We had to wait a bit, which is always a good sign for a restaurant. We were so pleased with the friendly efficient service as well as the authentic Swedish food!

We started with fika, dessert first! I had the Stockholm hot dog, some had the meatballs, another tried the fritter platter. Every bit of it was delicious! Well stop here again and have already recommended it to others!

  • *****

Delicious breakfast! Can't go wrong. Nice place too, outdoor seating. Don't forget to get a latte from Ian!

  • *****

Wasnt sure what to except, because I have never had a Sweedish breakfast before. The baked eggs were great. The OJ was fresh. The lingdon Berry momosa was great. Asked for toasted gluten free bread but it wasn't toasted at all. The service was very good. The bacon was amazing. A bit of a wait but it was Easter. I would recommend this place to anyone.

  • *****

Great spot in downtown Hood River and they have some awesome cocktails. Not to mention it's in an epic historical building. Well done...

Broder Ost is a beautiful restaurant. Cleanly and tastefully decorated, it gives off a mix of Scandanavian simplicity, but since its in an old hotel, there's also a bit of a western touch. It works.

The food is good too, although if you don't love Scandanavian food, this probably won't convert you. Still, you can get lots of toast with fish, meats, and cheese on it and all of it seems to be high quality. If you're looking for a light lunch, this is a good option.

  • *****

Excellent food and service. The breakfast hash with smoked trout outstanding! Kragen shrimp salad was to die for. Great experience!

  • *****

Scandinavia in the PNW? Yes please! Had a Latte with cardamom in it! The AEBLESKIVER with the homemade lemon curd was fabulous...also had an egg scramble to balance out the sweet. The ambience was lovely and reminiscent of my life in NYC...sigh.

  • *****

    Great food and atmosfera!
I loved the vibes and the stage was warm welcoming and very calm and easy going. Made my morning. Thank you!

  • *****

Delicious unique breakfast foods. Nice blend of savory and sweet options. Drip Coffee is decent with espresso machine and full bar. No bad options here, great breakfast!

  • *****

The meatballs are savory with a perfect white flour gravy. It's creamy and earthy, yet not too rich. The pickled beets, cucumbers and onion compliment the toast and jam that accompany it.

  • *****

Outdoor seating, dog friendly, authentic Scandinavian menu, knowledgeable and friendly staff. Good service and great food. Street parking but its everywhere.

  • *****

Delicious and beautifully prepared food, made from locally sourced fruit and produce! This is a great place to hang out and enjoy some great food while people watching or reading the newspaper. Although it is a separate entity, Broderost is located next to The Hood River Hotel, (it almost appears to be a part of the hotel) and you can enter Briderost using their front door on Oak Street , or from The Hood River Hotel"s lobby. GREAT FOOD, fantastic atmosphere, and an awesome location!

  • *****

My first Scandinavian food experience and it was great! We started with a half order of Swedish pancakes which were to die for! They were warm, very soft, and really baked to perfection!

Next I ordered the Lost Eggs which I highly recommend! It was unlike any breakfast plate I had before but the combination of spinach, eggs, and ham was exactly what I had hoped for.

If you're looking for something different yet simple and good, I recommend coming here for breakfast.

Located on the Main Street in Hood River this little gem will offer a Bfast culinary experience that you have never had before.

The place is simply decorated yet offers a warm and comfortable family feel with single and family style tables.

The menu is simple, it is not crowded by hundreds of options and most likely you have not had a Bfast like this one before. It will delight you.

We ordered coffee, which was served with sugar cubes and Warm Cream!! You do not see this as often any more as it tells you 1st you are not getting an overheated coffee and they understand that you do not want to chill that hot cup with cold milk or cream.

The Bfast started with a half order of Danish Pancakes which came with Lingonberry Jam and House Made Lemon Curd. Not knowing what to expect, these little pancake balls (4 of them) where delicious and the jam pairing was in point.

For Bfast we ordered the Lost Eggs and the Swedish Hash with braised short rib & smoked ham. They came served and beautifully presented in hot skillet on a wooden board with a side of rye toast with butter on the side.

The dishes were plentiful and delicious. I had no idea what to expect of Scandinavian food and am now a fan.

    Highly recommend this place.

  • *****

An absolute gem! We really loved the ambience here and our food was sublime. The latte we ordered was delicious -- perfectly creamy and not too hot. My husband ordered the fruit fritter platter, which also came with two baked eggs and a chicken sausage with pickled onions. He said the sausage was the standout item, but he enjoyed everything! I ordered the Danish pancakes, which were airy and delicious. Both the lingonberry jam and lemon curd that came with the pancakes were packed with flavor, but the lemon curd was my favorite by far! Prices here are fair and about what you'd expect for a place like this. Please note that for picky eaters or folks with dietary restrictions, the breakfast menu is not the most extensive. I would highly, highly recommend this restaurant if you ever find yourself in Hood River!

  • *****

Definitely worth the unique experience of eating here. I loved the unique menu paired with good food and a very comfortable town and atmosphere. Highly recommend this place and can't wait to come back.

  • *****

Absolutely loved this place. They're open early on the weekends, which is nice for us early risers! Staff was wonderful to meet and I really enjoyed my meal there. I had a Danish Mary, coffee, and the Swedish breakfast. All wonderful! I didn't love the aquavit in the Danish Mary, but that's my own fault. He warned me it has a little star anise in it (which I don't like) but I thought I'd try it anyway. I'll definitely get the drink again just without aquavit in it. I'll be back probably every weekend I'm here.

  • *****

We went for breakfast and the food was delicious and creative. The atmosphere is cozy. I will definitely visit again.

  • *****

Fantastic breakfast. I loved the authenticity of the food. Delicious and very Swedish! The baked eggs were perfect. The Negroni was excellent. Wait person was as sweet and warm as could be. We will go again.

  • *****

Waitress was a total babe. Super knowledgeable. Told us about Bagby Springs. If ur reading this, meet us there and brings friends.

I'd say a highly underrated breakfast/lunch spot. The food was nothing short of fantastic. The burger was perfectly cooked, tons of flavor. Meatballs were also fire-- must.

  • *****

I like everything about this restaurant.

The cute decor, the lovely service, and the great food! We went for brunch, and everything we tried was really good. I had the hash with smoked trout, which was great, but it was the ebelskivers that really won my heart. Other people at my table really liked the meatballs, the scrambles, and the porridge too. I think it's hard to go wrong and I look forward to coming back someday!

  • *****

Cute restaurant! Everyone was happy with the food they got. Good brunch spot.

  • *****

The hash is delicious. Add some Mamma's lil peppers, and it's amazing. Cool place, great food.

  • *****

Amazing food! Order the pancakes thinking they would be flat. Turned out to be more like donut holes, pleasantly surprised.

  • *****

Great food, great atmosphere, great menu and great staff! Keep up the great work!

    Wonderfully decadent coffee to boot!

  • *****

I can't say enough great things about our breakfast here. The food was fabulous. The atmosphere was comfortable/trendy. So many more items I want to try. I would drive from Portland just to go here to eat again. Thank you to the friendly staff as well!!

  • *****

This is a favorite of mine in Hood River.

    1. Service is always good. A
    2. The atmosphere is comfortable and unrushed. A
    3. The beer selection is limited but sound. A-
    4. The small well-executed menu is always consistently good. A
    5. My overall experience (at least 10 visits) has always been positive. A+

    PS: Good for kids.

I wasn't sure at first, but any doubts that I had were quickly quenched. I had to be in Hood River early and got there right when they opened up. There was only one person working the front of the house but he did a great job. There were probably another 8 patrons within the first 40 minutes, meaning the earlier the better.

Lefse is something my family makes yearly, so I had to order this treat. I learned that it wasn't made in-house, but instead outsourced from Minnesota. However, it was spot on and I would order again in a heartbeat. The breakfast salad was pretty incredible. I look forward to visiting again to try other dishes.

  • *****

We were in love with the restaurant at our hotel. The breakfast was absolutely fresh and delicious. The Bloody Marys were some of the best we had tasted in a long time. Add in a side of bacon and it was just what we needed to start off our vacation mornings after hitting Hood River nightlife the night before.

  • *****

Amazing food and love the atmosphere. Such a cute spot for brunch. My only complaint was my teeny tiny mimosa! It was poured in a wine glass and was maybe only 1/4 full. Like seriously, I finished it in one sip! Expected a bit more for $9. Other than that, fantastic place.

  • *****

This is our favorite breakfast spot in Hood River! From the location to the staff to the delicious food, Broder st is wonderful. The danish pancakes are amazing. We had the lost eggs and veggie breakfast skillet - both wonderful. Don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. And the staff is so friendly. We love it!

  • *****

Best brunch in Hood River! Great quality food, great and unique options, and fabulous service. Also location is very pretty and cozy. When in Hood River -- check it out!

  • *****

Delicious. Different and unique food. Would recommend. Food takes time to get to table but good things take time and individually prepared.

  • *****

This place was amazing! A new take on an original burger! My husband loved it! I wasn’t hungry, but he loved it! I had a bite and this burger was truly juicy. The soup was inventive and creative. I loved how everything paired well together too. My one flaw I’d say is we waited to long for our check when it was ready. The woman was talking for a few minutes before we got it and when we did it wasn’t the right check. But other than that it was amazing! Even the place was clean

  • *****

We had a great breakfast in the lobby of the beautiful Hood River Hotel. The food was a delicious change from regular breakfast fare, especially the danish pancakes and fried, smashed potatoes.

  • *****

Yum, really good breakfast/brunch fare including the hash with smoked trout and baked egg scrambles. We also enjoyed our mochas with caradmom.

  • *****

I love Broder! brunch is my favorite meal to dine to and I love all of the interesting choices at Broder. Along with awesome coffee!

    FABULOUS ... FABULOUS ... FABULOUS

    EXCEPTIONAL in every single way!!!

    Unique
    Fresh
    Clean
    Consistent

Returned today with my 17 yr old...and I have to say the food and service were (once again) exceptional!

An excellent dining experience in every way.

Unique food choices, clean, high quality ingredients beautifully prepared and creatively presented. We sampled several food choices with the board, loved the little round Swedish pancakes, and loved the "L" once again.

Don't miss Broder, it'll change your perception of what breakfast can be, and perhaps even enlighten you about Swedish cuisine as well.

  • *****

This was a great find! Delicious Swedish meatballs and also Swedish hash with trout. Looks like a nice hotel connected too

  • *****

The best Breakfast we have ever had!
It's all true -great vibe great food truly European feel.
Great job creating a Scandinavian haven in
Came in again and it was just as good!!

  • *****

Great menu and nice staff . Refreshing atmosphere that is welcoming. Delicious food and desserts are both beautiful and scrumptious! There is a "European cafe meets Hood River Fresh" feeling.....that's my best attempt at being descriptive. ;) go there and you will be at the heart of Hood River!

  • *****

I would go back to Hood River just to have another brunch at this place. My husband, son and daughter in law shared a feast. The Danish pancakes are little round balls, fluffy and delicious, especially with lingonberry jam and lemon curd. Great chicken sausages, tasty scramble with chevre and onions, and a full bar: we had mimosas. The setting is an old fashioned hotel, very cool.

  • *****

Different than the Broder in portlAnd but the menu is similar. Good food, service. Maybe a little boring.

  • *****

My favorite part was that you didn't have to wait 1+ hours to get in like you do in PDX. The food was amazing. The smoked trout chowder and hash were extremely tasty. The Danish pancakes were really good with the lemon cream and jelly. I almost didn't get them because I thought they were flat cakes instead of balls! Definitely a must have if you go!

  • *****

We stopped at Broder Ost en route to Bend. Our friends in Oregon recommended us that we stop at here for food. Really love the town and this place. Food is excellent.

  • *****

Great spot. "Ethnic" food, well prepared, excellent service, bar program that features many local wines. And the hotel itself is an amazing redo and now looks like a place that I would want to stay.

Great job creating a Scandinavian haven .

  • *****

We enjoyed a delicious Scandinavian-style breakfast here. Their menu isn't overwhelmingly large but pretty much everything on it looked great so we will probably stop again next time we're in Hood River.

  • *****

Broder is great, and the hood river ost location lives up to its name. Nestled in historic downtown hood river, it's a beautiful little spot with a nice street side cafe if the weather is agreeable.

If you have been to their Portland location, it's essentially the same menu, but the nice thing about this is the level of quality and execution is just as good!

For those who maybe are unsure about this type of fare, the staff are more than happy to guide you through... and while it may look and sound pretty advanced, there is enough variety everyone should he able to find something they love.

    Great addition to hood river

  • *****

Okay, so on the real when my friends said we were getting Scandinavian for brunch I was a little concerned. I'm not a huge fan of fish and was definitely concerned that'd be my option -- boy was I wrong and incredibly surprised!!

I love being the one to pick the best dish on the menu, it's always fun when I order first and everyone switches to getting what I'm getting! So all three of us ordered the fritters and baked eggs. First off, the presentation is insanely beautiful. Curated onto the perfect dishes for aesthetics and adorned with Scandinavian touches, we couldn't believe our eyes. We also ordered the crispy smashed potatoes and the pancakes.

The fruit filled fritters were divine. Cooked perfectly. Just the right amount of sweet and the syrup adds that perfect touch. The eggs & chicken apple sausage were yummy, too. My favorite was definitely the pancakes, though. The marmalade and lemon curd were SO good, I wanted to take them home! The potatoes were also cooked perfectly, super crispy but not burnt.

Definitely would go back, be sure to check out the beautiful brunch spread!

  • *****

I grew up eating Scandinavian cuisine, and this is a pretty authentic experience with a distinct Pacific Northwest bent -- smoked trout rather than herring for example. The gravlax is legit! So is the weekend Fika. My kids always look forward to the ebelskivers and kttbullar. And frankly, so do I (so I can sneak some bites). Decent selection of aquavits and other fine spirits and craft cocktails in the bar. Nice touches like carafes of steamed cream for coffee and seasonal, locally sourced ingredients keep this from being just a novelty and instead our favorite brunch place in the Gorge.

  • *****

Great unique breakfast. Everything was delicious! Kids loved the Danish pancakes. Grown ups had 3 different dishes and all were great. Coffee was good too.

  • *****

Unique dining experience with quality dishes. Breakfast included airy Danish pancakes and Norwegian porridge and lefse. All-around tasty with good service in a cozy setting.

  • *****

Really enjoyed this place. We were headed from Salem to Baker City and this was our breakfast stop. Sit outside if you can (and the weather cooperates). Food was good, staff was friendly and helpful.

After some to die for breakfasts during recent trip to Scandinavia, we had to check out this restaurant in Hood River.
Attached to the Hood River Hotel (or something), this restaurant has a fresh and relaxed atmosphere- great for small parties or larger groups.

The Swedish Breakfast was good, but was a bit simple compared to the same ingredients but more interesting flavor combos overseas. Lefse (ingredients vary by day) was absolutely delicious.

If in town again we'd come back!

  • *****

Great place, great ambiance, great food. I loved the entire experience. Will definitely be going back and taking family when they come and visit.

  • *****

Was a little scared to try Swedish breakfast as I'm not usually a fan of eggs. I ordered the danish fritters, which came with an egg dish and apple chicken sausage. The eggs were phenomenal!! My husband and I also quite enjoyed the Bloody Mary drinks and the white peach Bellini. There was a sweet black lab that was welcomed to dine with his owner on the patio, which I also appreciated. The waitstaff went above and beyond to make us feel taken care of.

  • *****

I really enjoyed the hash for brunch. The staff was really friendly and attentive. The menu was authentic Scandinavian

  • *****

Wow, food was pretty great, cool atmosphere upstairs, portions were a bit small for the prices & my food was a bit bland, but the other 3 people had great dishes (I tried all of their food too).

  • *****

I tried the seasonal fritters which were strawberry and absolutely amazing. They were perfectly fried to be crunchy on the outside and the right amount of strawberry inside to not be overwhelmingly. What I loved was the sausage and baked eggs that balanced out the fritters and made it a filling meal. It was the perfect variety and amount of food to make it wonderful!

  • *****

Great little place ... fun food .. great staff.

  • *****

A Scandinavian breakfast and brunch establishment specializing in baked eggs. It's actually quite good! Think of it like a Danish eggs Benedict. We both had the eggs over lox with a micro green salad. It was delicious and the perfect portion size. There were other very appealing offerings on the menu that made us wish we had more than one day in Hood River so that we could go back. Certainly on our next visit to the area.

  • *****

Amazing food. Amazing service. The waiter was caring and helpful - and capable, I think he was taking care of the entire restaurant.

We got the hash with trout and lost egg. The hash had everything chopped into small bits. The proportions were perfect - there's a good amount of trout balanced with a variety of vegetable. I think they also included a small amount of fruit to lighten and flavor. It was very delicious. I also loved the plating - so cozy, there's a tiny cloth sleeve on the cast iron pan!

  • *****

Seriously so so SO delicious. I think I'd say it's the best breakfast in Hood River. And the coffee is on point.

Food is quite different but very good. I had the meatballs this time and they were great. Service is always friendly.

A bit pricey but the food was well prepared and the AC made the room comfortable without being too cold. Definately not many vegetarian choices. The homemade chicken sausage was mild and lean, and assorted house pickles were great.

very good fresh nutritious food. Freshly made with no " mc donalds" meats!

we were in Hood river for a day and went here to experience Scandinavian breakfast... first thing I noticed was the decor.. so pretty and cozy... we ordered the danish pancakes, ham, pear skillet eggs and a side of potato pancake. The skillet eggs were ok.. nothing too special.. the potato pancake was the star! it was so yummy.... service was good.. overall had a good experience...

  • *****

Apparently people line up for the sister location in Portland, go to hood River because there little to no wait. The food was good but not amazing. All very rich and heavy. We had the pancakes, eggs, and smashed potatoes, it was all well seasoned and cooked, but the heavy richness was too one note.

  • *****

You cannot go wrong with the Danish pancakes. The lemon sauce is delicious, I almost licked the bowl clean. Everything that we ordered was perfect and the service was even better.

  • *****

We love coming here and we enjoy every bite. Drinks are always fabulous and food is to die for. Highly recommended, and my 7 year old approves.

Short review here. Great service, great food, lovely dining room. The staff is friendly and efficient. As for the food, husband had Lost Eggs;eggs, ham, spinach, cheese baked together. He ate the whole thing. I had Baked eggs with roasted tomatoes. Swedish Rye toast tasted great. Just dense enough to let you know you were eating real bread. Lots of other delicious looking menu items. We will be back.

  • *****

What a treat. Excellent spot to open a new Broder. Insider tip. Ask for a side of ketchup. It’s homemade and delicious. Fresh veggies hash perfectly cooked and seasoned. Pictured. Soup was fantastic. Great atmosphere as you can see. Inside or out. Aebleskiver light and fluffy throughout. Perfect pancakes!

  • *****

Great service and excellent breakfast. Drip and latte coffee were great but maybe steer clear off the coffee with aquvit/Kahula. The Swedish pancake was to die for if you have a sweet tooth like me. We also had the lefes with smoked trout and salad. Very tasty and satisfying breakfast. I'm already looking forward to the next visit.

  • *****

If you're in Hood River and looking for quality food, but maybe not the largest portions, Broder Ost is your spot! I've read some of the other reviews and some people have complained about snobbiness, but I didn't get those vibes. Sure, the protions may be smaller and the presentation may be a bit fancier than your typical American fare, but attention to detail never hurt anyone. Definitely give this place a try!

  • *****

Absolutely the best Mother’s Day ever. First class food with first class service. I am just beyond myself at how wonderful everything was. We will for sure leave the back, as well as frequenting your restaurants in the Portland area. Loved everything about it.

  • *****

As one reviewer said this may be too cool for stiff neckers. The friendliest atmosphere, amazing quality food and amazing food.
Firstly this isachance to try a new cuisine, secondly they have a uniquely stocked bar, try the something Grog, I hadn't ever tried aquavit and this drink should be summers new drink made with cucumber!
    Don't miss this opportunity!

  • *****

Fantastic. Our Scandinavian family is familiar with a lot of the menu items, but to have them all in one place? Amazing. The baked eggs were phenomenal. The 'skivers were also tasty- we have our own family recipe, but these were just as good. Great atmosphere. We came on a Monday just after opening so we had the whole place to ourselves. We recommend highly, and might try for a return visit next week.

  • *****

We received a voucher from our hotel and decided to go to Broder Ost for breakfast. This ended up being one of my most favorite breakfasts of all time!!! The restaurant is so quaint and lovely. My husband and I split the Swedish Breakfast, Danish pancakes and the skillet eggs and everything was delicious!!! We thought we would have way too much food to eat, but everything was so good we couldn't stop eating. The drip coffee cake with warmed cream which was such a nice touch. We loved it so much we went back the next day for breakfast sandwiches which were phenomenal!!

  • *****

The best Smørrebrød you'll find within 1000 miles. They featured Danish rye bread (Rugbrød) from local bakery White Salmon Baking Co. and it was absolutely the best variation on the style I have ever tasted. The smoked salmon was perfectly smoked and tasted like hickory, the pickled herring wasn't mushy and tasted of fresh dill and spices, and the shrimp salad was made with plump bay shrimp and a delicate dill dressing. I highly recommend Broder Ost, for anybody familiar with Scandinavian cuisine you will be very impressed.

  • *****

My favorite spot in Hood River. Staff is fantastic and friendly and the apparently employ wizards in the kitchen because the food is delicious!!! Must visit spot in the Hood'

  • *****

5 stars for the Bloody Mary alone. Had pickled beets in them...so delicious! Food was very good also, loved my Swedish Hash. Great environment and ambiance for brunch.

  • *****

Best place to get breakfast or lunch in Hood River!

  • *****

It took me a while to realize this was related to Broder in Portland! I wanted a good latte and a scandi style treat and they didn't disappoint. The interiors were beautiful and bright and playfully deigned with gold table tops and flowery wallpaper. We had the danish pancakes and the lemon curd, as well as everything else, was delicious. If I'm ever back in town again this will be my must stop spot.

  • *****

Absolutely delicious. Very different, but delightfully so. The pancakes are definitely different than American pancakes, but very fun and tasty. Try the Swedish coffee, it is wonderful.

  • *****

The one and only place that I have to hit up, every time I come to Hood River. The food is great, service is amazing, and the Aquavit Blood Mary's are not to be missed!

  • *****

I like Broder in Portland but LOVE it in Hood River. I think the cities just have different vibes which is great to see. There was no wait to seat my party of 4 gals. Our server was so sweet and calm she almost put us at ease! I ordered what I usually get when I come to Broder, the Lost Eggs. Broder is pretty consistent, it was equally as delicious, possibly even better than I've had at other Broder locations. An additional item I did order was the potato pancake. I wasn't much of a fan! I give it maybe, 3 stars.

We did come on a weekend and, like I mentioned, we did not have to wait! The 45 minutes it took us to drive here would have been spent waiting at a Portland Broder. The perks of small cities!

Also, if you're coming here expecting a country, american style breakfast *EEEEEGGG* you will be disappointed. It is a Scandinavian style breakfast place, totally says it all in the name of the joint--with Swedish characters and all. Come with an open mind and palate.

  • *****

Awesome food and awesome service! Looking forward to going back to trying more of menu.

  • *****

We had an amazing Christmas Dinner with them in December! I recommend it to anyone who loves Scandinavian food. Their brunch is light and lovely! Can't say enough good things!

  • *****

Was soo delicious! First time we've been there and everything was great. I had the lost eggs and everything tasted so fresh. Coffee was on point as well, couldn't get enough. Definitely will be back next time we are in town.

  • *****

Wonderful service and setting. Best chicken salad I have ever tasted . Superb smoked trout soup. This will be my regular stop for lunch when in Hood River. The Best of the Broder restaurants in Oregon.

  • *****

Its hard to find a better breakfast spot than Broder Ost- great food, coffee, and super friendly service that makes you feel at home whether you're a regular or there for the first time. The baked scrambles are my favorite, but I havent found anything I dislike yet. If you're looking for gas station coffee or the cheapest food in town Broders may not be for you but otherwise its fantastic.

  • *****

Take your time. They cook to order and the servers are low key and lovely.

  • *****

I've been to both the Portland location and now this one. I personally like this one more as there is way more space to actually sit. The Portland location is way too small. This one is two stories and no wait time. The food is always good. I like the pancakes and the breakfast sandwich!

  • *****

My partner and I enjoyed the breakfast here so much we went back the next day again. The food is delicious and well balanced and I felt perfectly filled. Staff and atmosphere were a pleasure even when busy.

  • *****

One of the best breakfast spots in town! Very cute place with yummy, fresh ingredients and a Scandinavian twist which switches it up from the usual diners and breakfast sandwich spots. I eat vegan, so I order the veggie hash with greens instead of eggs. It's always perfect and so healthy!

  • *****

Delicious unique breakfast foods. Nice blend of savory and sweet options. Drip Coffee is decent with espresso machine too. We'll be back to try other menu items.

  • *****

Great brunch! So many good options on the menu, something to please meat eaters and vegetarians alike. I really enjoyed the porridge and lingonberry compote. Also, the Bloody Mary with dill aquavit has the perfect amount of spice and the most amazing skewer of pickles. Don’t forget to get an order of aebleskiver for the table!

  • *****

The food and cocktails were phenom but the service was lacking. I felt terrible for the guy on because he seemed to be all alone for the most part, seating people, bussing tables, making cocktails and delivering the food. A little while later a girl joined him but she showed zero hustle. The guy however ran around and made it happen as best as he could throughout the whole experience. I’m assuming that morning they were just understaffed or not expecting that many people. I would definitely give them another shot since the food was good and it wasn’t the servers fault he was the only one there.

  • *****

Very delicious food served in an aesthetically pleasing way. I was happy with every part of my breakfast choice. Street metered parking but it's $1 an hour. Go here, you won't be sorry.

  • *****

The restaurant is very cozy and feels really good. Inside a historic looking building and very quiet for lunch. Lots of unique character.

Mocha was one of the best I've ever had!

    Chad is great!

The food is beyond amazing, the ambiance is warm and welcoming, and the staff truly cares about your experience.

  • *****

Without a doubt one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time! Huge portions, amazing combinations of flavors and personal service! A special meal and will be back! Had the Lost eggs and I the porridge looked amazing!

  • *****

Sample of three breakfast item menu choice made my day today.
Inspired space, nice local vibe, and downtown location round out this great find.

  • *****

I love this place, hands down my favorite breakfast in the gorge. Service is always so friendly and prompt and the food is always a total win! I am a sucker for anything with smoked trout so I usually get the Pytt I Panna but I have tried bites of almost everything on the menu and I am confident you can't go wrong.

The steamed cream for coffee a serious game-changer! You think it won't make that big of a difference but then you taste it and wonder how you can ever go back to cold cream in your coffee?! How have you made it this far in life with cold cream? The ambiance is perfectly casual but the space is so beautiful you still feel kinda fancy eating here. It's the perfect way to start your day whether you are in town visiting or if you are a local and need an excuse to cross the bridge.

Get the elderflower mimosa. I am convinced that bubbly wine tastes better when it's on tap!

  • *****

Ordered the Norwegian pancakes w lingonberry sauce and lemon curd, no regrets. Also their cocktails are great here!

  • *****

Love the Campari Sparkling. Light & oh so European.... Thank you!

  • *****

Had an amazing lunch with my mom here. Authentic Scandinavian food and spirits, so good!

  • *****

Super stoked that Broder is in Hood River! We hadn't been out there for a few months, and then stumbled onto the new location earlier this summer. We were bummed that we didn't notice it during previous visits but now that we know it is there, we will go back again. We are lucky to have them in PDX and its nice to have something that you love in another place you love.

  • *****

This is my favorite restaurant in Hood River. The entire menu is delicious and authentic. The presentation is beautiful, and the decor is so lovely! The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, as well!

  • *****

Amazing food and amazing service! Had the burger on gluten free bread and it was exceptional!

  • *****

Broder Ost's atmosphere is relaxed, the services is impeccable, and the food is delectable. This is a must when visiting Hood River!

  • *****

Super unique place. I really enjoyed eating here. Great food, good coffee, and likely some ingredients many people have never ate before!

Broderick Ost has fantastic breakfasts and service. I had scrambled eggs with ham and they were so good. My husband was running the marathon so they got us in and out very quickly.

  • *****

Great little place if you are looking for Scandinavian Fare. Pleasant space, may potentially get crowded and is an older building so it could be cramped if it was busy. We were here on a Monday late morning and found it mildly busy, but with quick service and friendly staff. Food was good and very authentic for the region - with rye crisp, baked eggs, and fritters. We had the breakfast plate, which was a lot of variety and good food, the breakfast sandwich, which was large and the fruit fritters, which featured pumpkin for the season.
Worth a visit - would come back and try lunch :)

  • *****

Perfect spot on a Friday morning heading to apple pick in Parkdale. I got the ham/apple scramble and have to say I was left a bit hungry. Some friends Got the lost eggs- looked amazing, and the breakfast sandwich looked even better. I got a Bloody Mary and it was delicious. Would definitely recommend it, great spot and fits right in in HR. I will say we called to warn them we were coming with 9 people and it did take two days for them to call back so just beware!

  • *****

What a wonderful gem. We were promptly seated & informed of the fillings for the fruit fritters & Lefsa. That made our day. I had the apple fruit fritters that arrived with 2 perfectly baked eggs and a delightful chicken sausage. My husband had the smoked trout filled Lefsa that arrived with a salad of mixed greens topped by a light vinaigrette. We enjoyed a relaxing breakfast with a wonderful cup of coffee. Definitely a place to stop next time we are in Hood River.

  • *****

The warm sunshine and amazing breakfast options make this a must to start the day. The fruit fritters and potato hash with the chicken sausage are delicious. The service is quick and the coffee comes with warm cream. Highly recommend stopping in for breakfast or brunch.

  • *****

I would give this place 6 stars if I could. Great atmosphere, great presentation, great service and wow - possibly the best breakfast I've ever had. Was not expecting that, so thank you!

  • *****

To be fair this style food isn't really my thing, but it was still impressive. I had the Fruit Fritters which were excellent! Really fluffy and the fruit was clearly fresh. The chicken sausage was average. The cooked egg was done very well. Nice place to come for brunch!

  • *****

Cute interior with lovely lighting and fresh flowers adorned in vases throughout the restaurant. I've enjoyed dining at the Portland location, so it was an easy decision for brunch in Hood River.

    Lost Eggs - excellent
Spanska - boozey coffee beverage- reminds me of a Spanish coffee. A little sweet but the fresh cream was delish

  • *****

Food is different, dish size could be a bit larger. On sund, serve speed is bit slow.

  • *****

Best breakfast in The Gorge! Super cute, quaint little space. Fabulous mimosas and delish food. Waitstaff is always friendly and welcoming. Can't say enough great things about Broder Ost, seriously a gem in the gorge.

  • *****

I know that everyone on here has written a review about the lefse. I have to leave my impression, though. I ordered it because I wanted some different tastes. I definitely got that. The potato pancakes were filled with smoked trout and cheese. The pickle salad on top of that was amazing. I felt like each bite was completely different from the last. It was heavenly. The only complaint I have is that I asked for my eggs to be baked soft, with running middles, and they were over done. Oh well. I will probably be back anyway.

  • *****

Best breakfast (or brunch) in Hood River. My favorite is the vegetable hash. I don't understand how something so (relatively) simple can be so extraordinarily delicious. Everything else I've had there is delicious, too. But I am all about the hash now. Coffee is good, service is relaxed yet attentive. I simply love this place -- you should for sure eat there.

  • *****

Got the Norwegian pancakes and kingdom berry sauce and lemon curd, I'm side of chicken sausage was also delicious with a brown mustard. I'm a fan of this place, second time coming here, it's a must stop. Only minus a star because the service could be a little better, but it's a busy place and they try hard.

  • *****

Stopped here for a late lunch and ate the seasonal fruit fritters which came with sausage and eggs.
Very good food for a reasonable price. The wait staff was friendly and helpful and the wait for food wasn't very long.
I will definitely be eating here again!

  • *****

It's good. Had good eggs, good hash brown. Great coffee. Nothing at all to write home about, a little pricey, though also a nice atmosphere inside. Server was a little on the 'nice on the outside judgy on the inside' variety - just got a bit of an unpleasant vibe. Tempted to give three stars but it was better than ok. 3.75 stars?

  • *****

First time trying Scandinavian breakfast. I had the Swedish hash with seasonal vegetables. I liked how the potatoes were diced small. I was afraid it would taste bland with the veggies, but it was very tasty. Cute decor and the portions weren't too big (the small cast iron pan is so cute!)

  • *****

Sooo good. The baked eggs with smoked fish were great with the added kick of the horseradish sauce. Pancakes are so unique and delicious! Great service too.

  • *****

My husband is Swedish, and thus picky. We loved this place for a mid-day, mid-week brunch. Excellent Danish pancakes and fruit fritters, all presented beautifully with hot eggs in a square cast iron skillet. Friendly service and a nice setting.

  • *****

we had bfast with a large group, the service was as good as the rather excellent food. The Aquabeta cocktail is highly recommended

  • *****

I enjoyed the salmon cakes, sandwich style on their house-made brioche bun. Service was a little slow, considering there was only one other table

  • *****

This is such a unique restaurant with a great menu of items for all tastes. My husband and I came here for breakfast and had the Swedish hash with seasonal vegetables, and the Baked eggs. Both were really different and totally delicious. Great decor inside, great service, and a really unique experience in terms of cuisine.

  • *****

TORI is an amazing human being! You will feel genuinely well-taken care of and nurtured and well-fed!
    Amazing food!!! Best service!
    Give it a go!!

  • *****

Came out to Hood River for a wedding. Love the town, but didn't necessarily consider it to be a "culinary delight". Then someone recommended Broder Ost. Honestly some of the best unpretentious Scandinavian-style food I've ever had, including in Scandinavia itself. (And if you've never had Scandinavian food, this is just good food period.) It was so good that - despite wanting to try as many restaurants as I can in a new place - I ended up returning to this place for two lunches & 1 breakfast.

Try the smoked trout hash and get a side of Unnipuuro - both amazing. The danish (bloody) mary with dill aquavit was a nice spicy surprise too.

Added bonus, the staff here is super friendly. The only caveat I'll add is that you should not visit this place if you're in a rush. The food can take a while to prep, and there do seem to be rushes which overload the staff. Nonetheless, it's worth it.

  • *****

Great (and unique) food with attentive service from Tory.

Based upon Tory's suggestion, I tried the lefse and it was terrific. Unique and healthy.

Nice atmosphere in the center of town, on a quiet Friday morning.

  • *****

Never disappointed by the incredible fare....Everything on the menu is prepared to perfectionThe extra touches make it the best breakfast in Hood River...Love the little griddles making the food stay hot to the very last bite...Steamed milk for the coffee...yummy special hot chocolate...the jam...the curd... everything is exquisite in a beautiful setting...We can't wait to go back and try more

  • *****

This is a really wonderful breakfast spot. Some unusual options and great variations on classics. The crispy smashed potatoes were wonderful, and the bacon was perfectly crispy. Great atmosphere and even better service. You won't be disappointed.

  • *****

We went for brunch and the food was delicious! The inside is very nice looking, and they have a whole bar. A great place to stop for a meal or drinks.

  • *****

Swedes know breakfast. Come early to avoid lines. The Smore Brod with whole grain breads and spreads is the closest to Stockholm you can get without an airplane ticket. Although I had to ask for an extra serving of the rye bread. If you are vegetarian don't order the latkes tell you find out what they are putting inside them.

  • *****

Excellent food and service here. Being danish it was amazing having a little taste of authentic foods!

  • *****

What a wonderful breakfast experience we had! The food was beautiful & so tasty. I would love to back given the chance. I would highly recommend it.

  • *****

Broder Ost provides a light, airy, and welcoming environment to enjoy their delicious food! The food is consistent.....consistently good that is and has more flavor than what I would expect from Scandinavian food :-) The coffee is excellent as well as the Bloody Marys! You can tell the ingredients and the thought going into the preparation of the food has a lot of heart in it. I definitely recommend eating here!

  • *****

Nice breakfast place, excellent coffee wonderful service. Pricey. Three dollars for refill on coffee seems excessive. Whoops! My mistake!!! Second cup order for my wife!

  • *****

I previously wrote a review and was less then impressed. I went here again a couple times(Since the closing of Nora's HR is lacking great breakfast) and was very impressed. Obviously the place has recognized that when paying for food, people expect quality service to go along with quality food. They no long win the "greatest potential" award but are actually now winning! Thanks for the great food. Try the Breakfast Sandwich its awesome!

  • *****

Unique breakfast food. We stopped here before heading out to hike. Portions are small (compared to American food places) but the food is good. A little pricey, but we are on vacation so we didn't worry about it. We split the pancakes, they were balls with powder sugar, very good. We also have the scrambled egg with trout and horseradish, also very good. It was filling, but didn't over stuff us before hiking.

After an hour's drive from Portland, Oregon, how could we resist an offer of brunch in this bright, pleasant place dreamt up by natural host and lifelong Columbia Gorge resident Chad Hinman? A lamb burger cooked medium rare with goat cheese on greens and a side of potato pancakes were prepared in perfect accordance with my allergy needs while my girlfriend moved with delight between her aebleskiver (Danish pancakes) and a skillet of eggs, spinach and cream. The staff were friendly, the coffee was strong, and everything came off in an atmosphere of cheer. Chad even paused to say hello.

Our good opinion of Broder Ost was echoed later in the day when we encountered one of Hood River's veteran restaurateurs.

  • *****

Wonderful location, great service and amazing food! Many great choices, you can't go wrong.

  • *****

My husband and I came here for my birthday breakfast during our weekend get away to HR. We started off with coffee which came served with a small bottle of foamy steamed milk. Then he ordered the Danish Mary and I ordered the elderberry mimosa. We split the Danish pancakes and the Swedish breakfast bord. The entire meal was fantastic!!! The food was fresh and well prepared. Our server was friendly and appeared at just the right times. This restaurant is reason enough to visit Hood River.

I absolutely love everything about this place. I had brunch with my husband and was delighted throughout the entire meal. It was all in the details and the flavors, I can't even describe how amazing it is. Don't miss out. If there is one place you go for food in Hood River, go here.

  • *****

Love this place. Really nice breakfast two mornings in a row. Good strong coffee. Great egg dishes. Cool way to start off a morning before skiing. Atmosphere and waiters including Chad and his friendly smile were a bonus.

  • *****

Lunch at Broder Ost was delicious as usual and also had the pleasure of meeting the owner's Mother (Camille) We had a nice visit and sat out in the Spring sunshine just like they do in Sweden. Thanks Chad.......

    Paul Richter, Portland OR.

I felt very comfortable here, The morning we were there, it was a cozy, sunny dining room. The food was delicious and very "Scandinavian" Swedish" or "Norwegian". Not "American". So, as long as you know this ,you'll be in for a treat! Delicious yogurt parfait and spread on the breakfast board.. great variety.... egg a little underdone for my taste, but was supposed to be soft cooked.... Oh and the abelskivers were VERY nice, they smelled like cardamom. I loved the warmed cream served with coffee, very nice touch.

  • *****

My husband and I were visiting Hood River and this was the best meal we had during our stay. The servers were laid back but friendly, the atmosphere was cozy and hip, and the food tastes as good as it looks. If you don't know what to get, order one of the egg bakes and the Danish pancakes (you'll be sorry if you don't). Also, get the cardamom in your coffee. Just do it.

  • *****

Breakfast was great. Some of the usual breakfast suspects but done in a different manner. I had the lefse of the day and it was great.

  • *****

Food was fantastic! Service was slow and it took a 20 minutes to get acknowledged, but it was a Saturday morning and maybe prime time? Very quaint and cute decor though. We had an egg bake, Swedish hash and these abelskeivers that were delicious

  • *****

It is always a pleasure to eat at Broder for breakfast or lunch. Wait Staff and manager are the best. Love the presentation and flavors of all their Swedish and American food.

  • *****

Delicious and authentic Scandinavian food! Loved it! If I lived nearby I'd go again and again. Highly recommend!!!!!

  • *****

WOW. seriously fantastic meal, especially for being in such a small town. I would recommend the Swedish meatballs, they're life changing. Adorable presentation on all the dishes, well done to the owners and chef.

  • *****

The place was empty when we arrived on a Monday afternoon. The server was very attentive, after we looked over the menu she offered to put in an order early for our two year old. That was awesome since he was starving. His eggs came out very quickly! I ordered the Lindstrom burger and my husband ordered the beef hash. Highly recommend the burger!! It had a nice cook and flavor and fresh greens on the side. I'm not usually a beet fan but the burger was delish. Coffee was excellent t as well.

  • *****

We have always loved going to Broder in Portland and we're pleasantly surprised to see a location in Hood River! We invited our family to share the experience of delicious breakfast! Love the danish pancakes! And the trout hash is a must!

  • *****

So glad they opened a Broder in Hood River as this town needed to shake up the breakfast scene a bit.

I loved the tomato and cheve baked egg dish and you can't go wrong with the fried dough balls (I would slaughter spelling the name out).

The building is cool too and the staff were very friendly. We will be back!

  • *****

Had a wonderful breakfast here yesterday for the first time.
We tried the danish pancakes with the yummy lemon curd and lingden berrys.
Also a baked egg scramble with ham and green apples. So we're amazing defiantly will be going back for more!!!

  • *****

Brder is hands-down my favorite brunch place in Portland, which is saying something given the incredible options. They just nail the details. Hood River's been blessed to have its own Brder now for about a year and Hood River's already burgeoning restaurant scene was further girded by this new entry. Try the applen frittaden, and if offered, the Swedish creme.

  • *****

When we learned our favorite breakfast spot in Portland planned on opening a cafe in Hood River, we were thrilled. We've waited in hour long lines in PDX. so it's a complete treat to enjoy it here. You can't go wrong with any of the approachable Scandinavian offerings. We can't help but order the lefse and danish pancakes every time we visit.

  • *****

Exquisitely crafted, unique, and utterly delicious! You can't go wrong here, there is something for everyone and so many new things to try. Baked porridge with cardomom milk, dense brown bread and superb smoked fish. If you are around for lunch don't forget to try a bit of Aquavit, an herbal liquor that makes gin look like an amateur. Service was quick, friendly and informative, thanks to our server Giovanni!

  • *****

Had the smoked trout breakfast. Would have preferred a bit more trout than I got, for the price, but this place is delicious nonetheless. My wife had the Danish pancakes and loved them.

  • *****

Hands down, best breakfast of my life. And I take breakfast seriously. If you are looking for an artfully crafted breakfast made with care and the best quality ingredients, this is your place. I walked into another well rated place this morning and promptly walked out due to poor service and I didn't trust that their ingredients were quality. Best decision ever to come here. Excellent service, amazing decor and ambiance, and the food was just mouthwatering. A side of smoked bacon that was the 4 best pieces of bacon I've ever had (crispy, but not too crispy, salty, but not too salty.) The baked eggs over salad greens were wonderfully flavored and the pickled onions were excellent. I'm new to lefse but I am sold! Lingonberry and chvre filling were an excellent finishing touch to this meal. Small menu (my preference) and everything I saw come out of the kitchen looked incredible. I'll drive 3 hours each way just to eat this breakfast again.

  • *****

Inventive and different. Quality, delicious execution, but only average/(borderline slow) service.

  • *****

Went there for a late breakfast on a whim, and they did not disappoint.
Great coffee, fantastic food and prompt but unobtrusive service.

  • *****

After a Scandinavian food delivery mishap in Portland the night before, Broder Ost hit the spot for lunch.

I got the Swedish breakfast board, a side of Napa cabbage lingonberry slaw and an elderflower mimosa. The slaw was solid, the mimosa was tasty but not as elderflower-y as I wanted, but the breakfast board was delicious! I subbed the ham out for pickled herring, and I was pleased with everything on the board. If I *had* to pick favorites, the walnut bread, soft boiled egg, and granola yogurt parfait made the top three. I need to duplicate this board at home!

Husband had trouble deciding because he wanted pickled herring, but got the gravlax smorrebrod and a potato pancake. Even nicer, the waitress gave him a side of pickled herring on the house!

Scandinavian food craving, satisfied. You need to make a stop if you're into fish. I have two days left in the Hood River area and am tempted to go back for breakfast.

    Highly recommend!

  • *****

No question, this place is amazing. Everything we had was phenomenal! I had the egg scramble with chvre and tomatoes with added green salad and bacon. My friends had the hash and the lefse and both were really good. Also the Danish pancakes were exceptional.

  • *****

    a perfectly executed dining experience

  • *****

Menu looks weird at first, but the food is really good. I highly recommend getting the 'lost eggs'.

  • *****

The food was wonderful. I had the Swedish Breakfast. It was very similar to food I ate while traveling in Europe. This restaurant is very nice addition to Hood River!

  • *****

Wonderful food in a beautiful, well-designed space. Will be a perfect addition to any trip to the gorge.

  • *****

The only place we eat brunch at anymore. Love, love it!

  • *****

We were pleasantly surprised by the exquisite quality of the dishes we ordered. The salmon was grilled to perfection, the kale and chard made scrumptious by a balanced addition of vinegar and diced pork belly, the Yukon potatoes baked to perfection. We came back for more: the ox tail and the lamb burger, accompanied by roasted beets, also delicious. The first night were offered with a cheese and cold cuts selection that was mistakenly meant for another party, not a common act of generous kindness. The venue is spacious, clean, welcoming. We wish a lot of success to this still new restaurant!

  • *****

Excellent Scandinavian food. Kind staff. Swedish meatball, fish cakes, pancake balls were delightful.

  • *****

Potato pancake is a must have!! Great service and cozy atmosphere. Perfect place for brunch!!

  • *****

My friend and I had a delightful brunch served fresh and hot. Swedish Hash with pieces of short ribs for me and Baked Eggs sunny side up with a bacon side for my friend. Both dishes were served hot in a cast iron skillet. I was concerned that the portions were on the small side but nope, it was a very filling portion. Border is a great new choice for breakfast in Hood River.

  • *****

Wow, what a superbly, refreshing restaurant. Hood River is known for wine and beer restaurants with mediocre service. Broder Ost is great quality food, beautiful plates, and fabulous service. I have very particular food restrictions and Broder Ost staff made me feel welcome with a breakfast off the menu that was a perfect fit. This was done with a smile and great knowledge of fine foods. Can't wait to try lunch and dinner!!

  • *****

Everything from the ambience, environment, decor, menus, drinks, and of course, the food is impeccable. I am a longtime fan of Broder on SE Clinton and enjoyed Broder Nord in NE Portland so I'm ecstatic to have a piece of the Broder family in my hood. Each menu item, including the drinks on the extensive cocktail menu, is distinct in flavor. The "Lost Eggs" and egg scrambles are a true treat, with amazing meats and cheeses. The cream for the coffee is steamed, allowing your delicious (local) coffee to stay hot. I always feel taken care of at Broder and I feel so grateful that Hood River now has a true brunch spot. Also, the happy hour allows for more indulgence later in the day with delicious cocktails!

  • *****

Best overall food in Hood River, identical to the S.E. Portland Clinton location. Eclectic American comfort menu prepared with a distinct style. It's in the Hood River Hotel downtown.

  • *****

very tasty! I had the Swedish Hash with trout. I liked the taste but not enough trout for me. The size of the meal was definitely sufficient for a day of hiking. My husband had the Lefse. Although it looked small, he said it was filling. Coffee was delicious. Service was great. Wish we had been staying in Hood River longer so we could come back and try other items on the menu!

  • *****

Lovely place to eat breakfast! Traditional Norwegian food with a twist! If you're in Hood River or Portland, you must check it out. The Swedish pancakes, potato pancakes, coffee and Bloody Mary's were amazing!!

  • *****

Great atmosphere. Thoughtfully designed. Good service. Relaxing music. And great food! Lefse was delicious with layers of chvre and smoked trout, perfectly cooked eggs and topped with a vinegary salad. Balanced and very filling. Hash was tasty and served in the cutest skillet complete with the cutest skillet handle hot pad. Would definitely eat here again.

  • *****

Delicious. Who knew Norwegians have the best breakfasts?! Soft baked eggs with scrumptious veggies and greens, all done perfectly. It should be a required stop in Hood River; with a sweet atmosphere, and unpretentious and lovely staff this place exceeds expectations. Enjoy an elderflower mimosa to set the palette for your brunch as well as a precursor for the area's wine tastings.

  • *****

Came with 8 people and we were NOT disappointed. My breakfast was outstanding and service were very kind. I give a FIVE Stars.

  • *****

First of all, I have been going to Border on SE Clinton and Broder Nord for years. Love the concept and the food at both of these places. I was really excited upon hearing about Broder Ost coming to my neck of the woods! We went on a Saturday, and had a genuinely great time.

    Service - 5 Stars!
I was greeted by two staff within a few minutes of arrival -- very welcoming, and OMG no wait!!!! Audra is a super awesome server. She was really attentive and genuine, even while juggling all of her other tables. She checked in often, and gave really honest recommendations based on customer favorites vs her personal taste. I appreciate that distinction. Grateful for her tip on the Dill Bloody Mary -- so yum!

    Drinks - 4 stars
We ordered the Elderflower Mimosas, they weren't anything special. Wouldn't order it again -- was just like a slightly sweet champagne. However, the Dill Bloody Mary was quite tasty. Full flavor, and delicious. Wasn't a huge fan of the pickled accoutrement. The tomatoes and beets were just a bit too soggy for my liking. Perhaps it's personal preference, but I enjoy more texture and crunch.

    Food - 4 stars
The menu has variety and is well curated. The plating and presentation were on point for both items ordered. Love the tiny cast iron pans with the little quilted mits on the wood platter. However the delivery was subpar. I ordered the tomato, chvre and caramelized onion scramble with a side of bacon. My partner ordered the hash with short ribs and smoked ham. The food was tasty, but for the price point we expected more value. I only had three tiny roasted tomatoes in my scramble, and two dollops of chvre. It was also quite light on the onion. My partner had only 5 tiny cubes of short rib, which is ironic given the dish's namesake. The potions of smoked ham were generous. But perhaps portioning could be on the short rib addressed to give more equity with the description and price point at hand.

Overall, will definitely be back. Would like to see some improvement in food value and execution.

  • *****

Prompt, great service. Delicious food. I highly recommend the egg bake. We ordered the ham, Apple & Gruyere as well as the pulled pork, mushroom and Brie egg bake. Both were superb; it just depends on your taste preference.
As a tea drinker I could not be happier. The loose leaf tea with steamed milk hit the spot on a brisk, cool morning.
I plan to return and try other items on the menu.

  • *****

I've only had one breakfast here but it was excellent! Located off the lobby of the Hood River hotel (where a fine southern restaurant was only a year ago), it's centrally located.

There were enough unusual and tempting items on the menu that it would take numerous visits to try them all, so kudos for the variety.

I chose the baked egg scramble with goat cheese, onion, and cherry tomatoes. For $12, it's a filling dish served in a small square cast iron skillet, with 2 small slices of walnut toast. For an extra $2, add a side of smoked bacon, which had 4 thick slices of some of the best bacon I've tasted.

The egg dish was flavorful, but watch out for the hot cherry tomatoes which lurk here and there. They retain heat from the oven for quite a while. Other flavor combos include ham/Gouda/Apple, along with a short rib combo. Other breakfast options include pancakes, an egg sandwich, and various Swedish assortments of breakfast boards.

I'm looking forward to trying other combos - they make it worthwhile to get dressed for breakfast!

    Service was friendly and prompt.
